Breakfast. We will leave the populated capital of Senegal, Dakar, and reach Toubacouta in the Saloum region, fiefdom of Serere ethnic group. Lunch at your charge on the way. Before arrival at Toubacouta, visit of villages and Kaolack, former commercial post in the groundnuts trade by the French colons. Installation in our hotel in front of the Saloum River. Breakfast. The delta, where the rivers Sine and Saloum come together, is a labyrinth of islands. We can enjoy with a lovely cruise in canoe motorized into the mangrove creek to Sipo. The island of Sipo still remains hardly untouched and still has ancient and cultural heritage. The village is typical and shelters the "Queen of Sipo" who lives with her family there. Visit of the village and the queen and back to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon, visit of Toubacouta. Diner and overnight (Half Board). Read more
Breakfast. The sahelian landscape with his thousand-year-old baobabs becomes greener when we approach the Gambia. We cross the river of this state by a ferry and join Casamance region with our car. This region has beautiful villages of mud and straw and sacred trees. Installation in a hotel in Ziguinchor and time to walk along his streets with Creole flavour and to visit St Maure's market where objects are in wood from the neighbouring Guinea Bissau. Breakfast. Departure in direction of Elinkine. On the road, visit of Edioungou and Oussouye, villages of the Diola tribe. In this area are always tribal kings who control small kingdoms with some subjects. We’ll enjoy the beauty and diversity of Casamance flora with its rice fields and magnificent palm trees. Continuation to Elinkine where we can admire the arrival of fishermen. From there we embark to go to Carabane Island. Visit of the island which was a big commercial centre during the colonial era (cemetery, vestiges of church...), we’ll have the opportunity to be in contact with the local population. Breakfast. Depart with a motorized canoe to Hitou island, animal sacrifices and mystical ceremonies give it its originality. We’ll visit the fetichist, an older man who can tell us about our future and who is in charge of the animist ceremonies. Come back to Carabane island for free lunch. After we shall embark again on dugout in direction of Elinkine for a transfer by our car to Cap Skiring. Installation in a hotel in front of the beach or near. Dinner and overnight (Half Board). Breakfast and transfer to the Dakar harbour where we will board a ferry to visit the island of Gorée, an island which long ago was the stake in numerous confrontations between the Portuguese, English, Dutch and French. Hundreds of thousands of men, women and children were deported from Gorée. The « slaves’ house » with its door opened on the ocean is a terrible reminder of the cruelty of men towards men. Turn back to Dakar for a city tour of the Senegalese capital. We’ll make a visit that we’ll permit us to discover the colonial’s remains of what was the capital of French Africa.
