This safari shows you the highlights of Uganda and Rwanda. You will do chimps trekking and meet the animals of the savanna in Uganda and then head over to neighboring Rwanda for gorilla trekking and a tour of Kigali. National parks visited are Murchison Falls NP, Kibale Forest NP, Queen Elizabeth NP and Volcanoes NP. Other highlights include Ziwa rhino sanctuary and Rwanda's capital Kigali. Arrival at Entebbe airport for the Uganda & Rwanda highlights safari. We meet our tour guide and transfer to our Kampala to relax after the flight.
We leave Kampala in the morning and just out of Kampala your guide will point out to the Popular Luwero triangle. On the way you will make a stop to see the fascinating rhinos at Ziwa Rhino sanctuary. At Ziwa they are working to reintroduce rhinos to Uganda and you make a safari walk to see these fascinating animals. In the afternoon you reach the destination Murchison Falls National Park - the Giraffe Paradise. When there we visit the top of the magnificent falls and check in at the lodge. Read more
Make an early start for a game-drive exploring the park. We keep our eyes open to see giraffes, elephants, lions and more. After lunch in the afternoon you have a super highlight in the boat ride on the mighty Nile to the base of falls. You get to see the hippos (you have never seen more hippos yawning, grooming in their pods anywhere else than here), Nile crocodiles, elephants and a variety of beautiful bird species along the banks. If you are a keen birder this might be your magnet to catch them. Read more
After breakfast start the transfer towards Kibale. It is a long drive with the target to have lunch in Fort Portal and possible to stop for visits at a local market, country side village, stunning scenery and tea plantation. On the drive further west wards the Rwenzori ranges (longest in Africa) comes in view. Arrive for check-in and dinner in late afternoon/evening. Read more
After breakfast get to the briefing for chimps trekking and set off in to the forest with your guide. Kibale national park is a rainy forest and a home to over 1500 Chimpanzees that you have the chance to see close and capture shots of in the jungle in there frenzy exciting moods grooming! Kibale is rich in primates and alongside the chimps there are 9 different species of monkeys for example red colobus, red tailed monkey and bush babies. In the forest canopy colored aviation creatures-butterflies and various bird species like the native Great blue Turaco, joyful greenbul, olive long tailed cuckoo and the superb black bee eater can be seen. After the trekking we transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park. Here we check in and can experience magnificent endless views from your overnight place as the sun sets. Read more
Experience Queen Elizabeth National Park in the cool morning with an early game drive that exposes us to diverse animals. We look for Elephants, Buffalos, big cats- Lions, Leopards, warthogs and Hunchback carnivals like Hyenas as we drive along the circuits. There is a rich bird life especially our version of storks in the wetland sports as we reach the Flamingoes in the salt lakes. At 3pm get ready for the Classic highlights on the 2hrs Boat cruise on the famous Kazinga channel, this is a 36km channel linking Lake George - Lake Edward. Here you can see land and water adapted Hippopotamuses yawning and some slashing canines to each other and the National Geographical society killing machine the Nile Crocodile gaping along the Banks and Savannah version of Pigs the Warthog- Pumba of the award winning Lion King are a hallmark sign in this Animal home of Mamaland Uganda. After breakfast we set off for our target destination Rwanda, the second country in the Uganda & Rwanda highlights safari. Drive through villages with cultivated areas until the lush green tea estates in a rich green belt after the rift escarpment on a paved highway to Kabale town, cultivated hills and Echuya forest are a highlight with the stretch of the volcanoes and a more golden scenery here. Set off to Rwanda we further drive out to cross the relaxed border post as Congolese traders will be seen requesting for Hitch hiking around. We continue on into Rwanda and the town of Ruhengeri. We get up for an early breakfast and head to do the Gorilla trekking briefing which is at 7 o’clock Rwanda time at ORTPN office headquarters. It is a 12km drive to the base of the Volcanoes and you will be grouped into groups for the trekking. The atmosphere warms you up as you have some coffee to re-charge as its under 15’C we will get into our cars and get driving into the molten lava bread, as it's tough for the cars you get a so called “African massage”. When the starting point is reached you enter the forest for the trekking in search for the Rwandese version of Mountain Gorillas. After finishing the trekking and lunch transfer to Kigali, a city in a country different from the rest of the great lakes countries. Read more
Have a city tour of Kigali including the genocide war memorial and traditions and culture of Rwanda in the crafts villages. Your guide will be throwing light on this former French –Belgium colony on how the apocalypse started and how it ended. We have now reached the end of the Uganda & Rwanda highlights safari. We have been back in Sweden and Falun, enjoying the winter of course. But every day, in our minds, we travel back to East Africa and Uganda and relive an unforgettable safari. The savanna with giraffes, elephants and all the antelopes. The rainforest and the gorillas in the mist. The Nile with hippos and crocodiles. The Ngorongoro and Serengeti with the lions and other big cats and the awesome number of animals in the big migration. But we also remember curious kids, always smiling and ready for a football game during a short lunch stop. Awesome journeys on red and bad roads in the enriching company of Michael who became a lot more than just a guide and driver. He became a friend. We just arrived after a 3 days Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi NP and squeezed in a Game Drive in QENP incl. the tree climbing lions in Ishasha! Godwin was a perfect driver and tour guide!
