After breakfast, enjoy a city tour of Amman. Then you will be taken to the ancient city of Jerash, one of the best preserved Roman provincial towns of the world. Walk around the vivid remnants of past civilizations, and in the afternoon, proceed to Dead Sea, the most unique spot of the world, for its 417 meters below the sea level and due to its rich minerals and high salt contents you get this never before opportunity to float on this sea. After breakfast in the morning, free time at leisure to relax and enjoy the spa therapies in your hotel. Then we will take you to explore the holy land. Head to the Christian city of Madaba “the city of Mosaics” which has the oldest known mosaic map of the holy land. Visit St George church, its archeological park and museum. Next we will visit Mt Nebo the place where Moses spent his last days and viewed the holy land for which he could not enter. Here you can view the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, Jericho and Jerusalem. After breakfast, we head to visit the Nabatean Red Rose city of Petra, one of the 7 world wonders and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Enter the city through 1KM long narrow gorge which is flanked either side by 80m high cliffs! Notice the dazzling colors and formations of the rocks. The site is massive, and contains hundreds of elaborated rock-cut tombs, a treasury, Roman-style theatres, temples, sacrificial altars and colonnaded streets. Read more
After breakfast head south to the enchanting desert of Wadi Rum. A 2 hour jeep ride will take you deep into the desert, where you will discover many scriptures and drawings of past civilizations carved into the stone 4000 years ago. In the afternoon, take a hike in Wadi Rum to explore the many narrow canyons and water holes and experience the vast immensity and tranquility of the boundless empty spaces. I spent 3 weeks in the Middle East and Zaman Tours coordinated my itinerary in Jordan portion of the trip, specifically in Amman and Petra. These folks built a schedule specifically for me where I experienced the local scene in addition to all the major tourist attractions like Petra, Jaresh, the Citadel, Wadi Mujib and more. The guides and drivers were thoroughly knowledgeable, friendly and went out of their way to make this a memorable trip. I had a little trouble crossing the border from Israel to Jordan, but Zaman was there giving me the assistance I needed. Throughout my stay I was well taken care of and completely safe.
