Here in the 1st century AD the Nabataeans established a commercial suburb, a place for trading caravans to stop en route between south Arabia and the Mediterranean. Proceed to the desert of Wadi Rum. Wadi Rum is a stupendous, timeless place, virtually untouched by humanity and its destructive forces. Here, it is the weather and winds that have carved the imposing, towering skyscrapers, so elegantly described by T.E. Lawrence as “vast, echoing and God-like…” A 2-hour Jeep ride will take you deep into the Jordanian Desert where you will discover many scriptures and drawings of past civilizations carved into the stone 4000 years ago. After the breakfast we will take you for a city tour of Aqaba. Start by a visit to the partially rebuilt Aqaba Castle, the Archaeological Museum and the House of Sharif Hussein bin Ali. Both are in the same complex that you can enter either from the Great Arab Revolt Plaza or from the side street of the castle. Enjoy the Aquarium -Part of the Marine Science Station complex (7.5km south of Aqaba), the aging and dated tanks nonetheless provide a colourful glimpse of coral, moray eels, turtles and stonefish. I spent 3 weeks in the Middle East and Zaman Tours coordinated my itinerary in Jordan portion of the trip, specifically in Amman and Petra.
