Day 1: Arrival at Kigali International Airport You will be picked by our company driver/guide upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, who will transfer you to the hotel that was reserved for you. You will later have dinner and an overnight rest at the hotel of your booking.
Day 2: Kigali City tour and transfer to Volcanoes National Park After your breakfast, our guide/driver will pick you from the hotel and take you through the itinerary. You will then start the journey to volcanoes national park. You will first have a city tour where you will visit the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Site, Rwanda national museum and other interesting places. After your lunch, you will proceed to the home of endangered mountain gorillas in Rwanda (Volcanoes National Park). Reaching the park, check in to the lodge that was booked for you and later transfer to Ib’iwacu cultural village where you are to spend the rest of the evening. Day 3: First Gorilla trekking and nature walk After your morning breakfast, you will assemble at the park headquarter a long side with your trekking gears, drinking water and packed lunch for a short briefing by the park ranger about gorilla trekking rules. The guide will later lead you to the gorilla trekking point trail and start searching the gorillas in the forest. Trekking gorillas may take between 1 to 8 hours depending on the location and movement of these endangered primates in their natural environment. Upon seeing the gorillas you will feel relieved and you will be allowed to spend 1 hour with the gorillas as you are watching them at close range as you take photographs. After the trekking, you will get back to the lodge for refreshment and later drive to Musanze cave where you will spend the evening. Day 4: Second gorilla tracking Your second chance is here for you to maximize gorilla trekking adventure experience in Volcanoes National Park. After breakfast you will assemble at the headquarters for briefing again and this time you may be allocated to track another different gorilla group. After the trekking, you can spend the rest of your evening at ib’iwacu culture village to experience the Rwandan culture. Read more
Day 5: Golden monkey trekking, Dian Fossey hike and transfer to Lake Kivu After the morning breakfast, you will go for golden monkey trekking just like gorilla trekking. You will later hike to the Dian Fossey Research Center where you will learn more about activities she did as she was the person who dedicated her life to conserve mountain gorillas that were being poached at that time. She was killed and buried at the center which became one of the tourist attractions in the volcanoes. You will then transfer to Lake Kivu where you are to spend a night. You will have dinner and overnight stay at the hotel of your booking. Read more
Day 6: Boat cruise on Lake Kivu and transfer to Kigali After your morning breakfast, you will drive around Lake Kivu as you enjoying the beauty of the island on the lake. You will later have a boat cruise on the lake as you enjoy the cool breeze from the fresh water of Lake Kivu. The trip of a lifetime! We just returned from 10 days Safari and it was just wonderful. Uganda had all the activities we wished for and Home To Africa Tours & Travel had an affordable itinerary that did not disappoint. Elias and Paul met us at the airport and made sure we were looked after and comfortable for the entire trip. Paul is an excellent and knowledgeable guide and very good at spotting animals. We saw the big five animals and so many more and enjoyed multiple game drives and boat rides. Each of the five national parks we visited had their own atmosphere and attributes and we loved them all. This itinerary required many hours of road travel but there was so much to see while riding through the countryside. It was endlessly interesting to see the trading centers, homes, people, and especially the friendly children of Uganda. We particularly enjoyed the game drives and were amazed at all the animal sightings. Our lodgings were comfortable with good food and we did not have to worry about a thing as Paul is an experienced guide and led us along on a trip we will never forget. Home To Africa Tours arranged the next leg of our trip to Victoria Falls which was a sight to see and those plans all fell into place without a hitch. My mind is still so full from all the things I learned on this trip and I have over 300 photos to enjoy. Overall we were very happy with our family vacation with Home to Africa tours and travel. It was planned according to our wishes and we saw, experienced and tasted more than we had ever hoped for (thank you for the unexpected, fantastic birthday and graduation cakes!). The parks, trekking, animals, people, markets, scenery, food and experiences were all wonderful, not to mention the rafting. The lodgings were at times a bit simpler than we'd hoped for but worked out for us anyway. Our guide was very knowledgeable regardless whether it came to animals, history, agriculture, nature, politics, really anything. Unfortunately he was short tempered with little patience and at times put a damper on the atmosphere. All in all we are very happy with our trip to Uganda and have managed to raise a lot of interest from friends and colleagues. Read more
