5 Day Drakensberg Mountains, Tugela Falls & Rock Art Adventure

Take a trip to the magnificent uKhahlamba-Drakensberg National Park, A world Heritage site. This status was given to the area for two main reasons, one the unique fauna and flora that is found only in these mountains. Secondly, for the some 50 000 Bushmen paintings that are littered throughout the expansive landscape, in caves and rock overhangs, that they used as shelter. The Bushmen or their proper tribal name, the San people, are the original inhabitants of Southern Africa. Dating places them here around 2000 plus years ago, hunter gathers, they roamed the entire Southern tip of Africa following the animal herds and the rains. Now all that is left to remind us of this incredible culture, is the rock art that they left behind. Hiking in the 'Berg' is the main activity, ranging from an hour to multiple days, catering for the novice to the expert. The mountains are full of streams, rock pools, waterfalls and a myriad of peaks and valleys. Amazing bird and plant life, with a lot of animal species keep you in awe as you explore these incredible landscapes. Main highlights of this trip are the beautiful accommodations right at the base of the mountains, giving incredible views of the escarpment right from your room. Visit to the infamous Drakensberg Amphithere, home to the second highest waterfall in the world, the Tugela Falls. A short hike to some authentic and original San Rock art sites, as well as an educational visit to the rock art center for some amazing insight into these fascinating people. There are also a range of extra activities on offer throughout the area, speak to your consultant for all these options. Activities such as, horse riding, pony trekking, zip-line, quad-biking and kayaking.

Wake at your leisure and enjoy the magnificent views of the Drakensberg and Cathedral Peak, right from your room. Your guide will be available for an early morning hike if you so desire. Breakfast is served back at the lodge restaurant. Visit the Didima Bushman (San) Rock Art Museum, which gives amazing insight and information on the Bushmen's way of life, art and culture. Many real artifacts from the San people have been recovered and are on display here. You will then check out and make your way to another area of the 'Berg' called Giants Castle. Arrive at Giants Castle Camp and check into your accommodation. The scenic mountain wonderland takes its name from the massive ramparts of rock rising above the lodge, of which the silhouette of its peaks and escarpment against the sky resemble a sleeping giant! Take a short hike to some authentic San Rock art in the afternoon, beautifully preserved in some rock overhangs. Dinner in the lodge restaurant. Spend the day enjoying the fresh air and scenery. Many types of antelope and baboon are present within the reserve, including the mighty Eland (Africa's Largest antelope) which were the sacred animal of the San people. Going on a safari is an amazing experience and not having to worry about logistics or a single detail is why you want to go with Endless Summer Tours!!! They coordinated every aspect of our trip from airport pick-up to drop-off, we didn't have to think about a thing...only enjoy! We stayed 2 nights in a private camp / chalet and then 1 night at a more resort-type camp. Accommodations were better than expected. Rhys and Brett prepared our meals, including a traditional South African braai (BBQ), and treated us to some nice South African wine and the local specialty Amarula. A dinner was also planned at a restaurant in the reserve that had a buffet of tasty dishes and authentic singing and dancing by the waitstaff...really cool experience. On safari, we got to see 4 of the big 5 and lots of other animals. Throughout the trip, both shared their extensive experience and knowledge that helped us appreciate our experience even more. All of us were extremely happy. Overall, it was an awesome adventure. Read more

Four friends and I booked with Endless Summer Tours for a two-day, one-night safari in Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve. We were blown away by the entire experience in the best possible way. Our guides were so much fun, informative, and GREAT cooks! We were so lucky we were able to be upgraded to a bush lodge in the park for our one night stay. It was so peaceful to be so far out in the wilderness. On our game drives we saw so many rhinos, giraffes, and elephants. My favorite part of the safari, however, was driving through the beautiful wilderness. Endless Summer Tours was so accommodating - I can't overemphasize how awesome Endless Summer Tours was from the moment I contacted them to book a tour until the very end of our travels. We had an unforgettable experience and will definitely be using Endless Summer Tours for future visit to South Africa! Read more
