5 Day Drakensberg Mountains, Tugela Falls & Rock Art Adventure
Take a trip to the magnificent uKhahlamba-Drakensberg National Park, A world Heritage site. This status was given to the area for two main reasons, one the unique fauna and flora that is found only in these mountains. Secondly, for the some 50 000 Bushmen paintings that are littered throughout the expansive landscape, in caves and rock overhangs, that they used as shelter. The Bushmen or their proper tribal name, the San people, are the original inhabitants of Southern Africa. Dating places them here around 2000 plus years ago, hunter gathers, they roamed the entire Southern tip of Africa following the animal herds and the rains. Now all that is left to remind us of this incredible culture, is the rock art that they left behind. Hiking in the 'Berg' is the main activity, ranging from an hour to multiple days, catering for the novice to the expert. The mountains are full of streams, rock pools, waterfalls and a myriad of peaks and valleys. Amazing bird and plant life, with a lot of animal species keep you in awe as you explore these incredible landscapes. Visit to the infamous Drakensberg Amphithere, home to the second highest waterfall in the world, the Tugela Falls.
