4 Day Sani Pass and Lesotho

This trip leaves from Durban, although it can also be done from Johannesburg but a lot more road travel time. You will travel to the Southern Drakensberg mountains and spend 2 nights in the quaint town of Underberg. Then take a trip up the infamous Sani Pass, a dirt road that can only be accessed with 4X4, connecting South Africa to the country of Lesotho, the Mountain Kingdom. You will travel into Lesotho and experience a Basothu Village and then have lunch in the highest pub in Africa. The third night you stay in Lesotho, at the Sehlathebe National Park. A remarkable area, where the berg is ending, causing rock features that are out of this world. Then on the last day take a hike or pony trek down Bushmens Nek Pass back into SA!

ITINERARY

Arrival Day

Meet your guide and vehicle and begin your journey to the Drakensberg mountain range and the town of Underberg. On arrival check into your accommodation and freshen up. In the afternoon you can take a hike into the reserve with your guide, of any length you wish. You could also spend the afternoon enjoying the views of the mountains right from your room or ask about the optional activities on offer such as horse riding and quad bikes. Underberg

Sani Pass

After breakfast you will go on a 4x4 trip up the Sani Pass. This is a rocky dirt road connection SA to Lesotho. You will cross the border into Lesotho, enjoying some spectacular views as you go. Once in Lesotho, visit a traditional Basuthu village and learn about of these people survive in these harsh conditions on top of the mountain. Before you descend back down the mountain and into SA, have lunch in the highest pub in Africa, 2800m! This will take the entire day, so when you get back to the lodge at 4pm you'll enjoy the opportunity to put your feet up, have a drink and take in the tranquility. Underberg Lodge

Sehlathebe National Park

After breakfast head up once again by 4X4 up into Lesotho, this time further south along a different path. It takes a few hours, but then you cross the border and enter the Park. Beautiful views, some animals and interesting rock features can been seen. Arrive at camp and enjoy a lunch, before heading out to explore this area on foot. You are now at the extreme southern end of the Drakensberg and as the mountain range begins to wane and stretch out toward the coastline the type of rock changes. It is very susceptible to weathering and so forms incredible shapes like nothing you have ever seen before. Then as the sun sets it is time to light a fire as your guide prepares a great meal for you. Read more

Sehlathebe Lodge

Departure Day

Wake early for a nice cooked breakfast and then prepare to leave. You have the choice from here to either hike down th pass known as Bushmens Nek or take a once in a lifetime pony trek. Take in the spectacular views as you wind your way back down into SA. Meet your vehicle once again and head back to the city. Read more

Going on a safari is an amazing experience and not having to worry about logistics or a single detail is why you want to go with Endless Summer Tours!!! They coordinated every aspect of our trip from airport pick-up to drop-off, we didn't have to think about a thing...only enjoy! We stayed 2 nights in a private camp / chalet and then 1 night at a more resort-type camp. Accommodations were better than expected. Rhys and Brett prepared our meals, including a traditional South African braai (BBQ), and treated us to some nice South African wine and the local specialty Amarula. A dinner was also planned at a restaurant in the reserve that had a buffet of tasty dishes and authentic singing and dancing by the waitstaff...really cool experience. On safari, we got to see 4 of the big 5 and lots of other animals. Throughout the trip, both shared their extensive experience and knowledge that helped us appreciate our experience even more. Four friends and I booked with Endless Summer Tours for a two-day, one-night safari in Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve. We were blown away by the entire experience in the best possible way. Our guides were so much fun, informative, and GREAT cooks! We were so lucky we were able to be upgraded to a bush lodge in the park for our one night stay. It was so peaceful to be so far out in the wilderness. On our game drives we saw so many rhinos, giraffes, and elephants. My favorite part of the safari, however, was driving through the beautiful wilderness.
