Bogota City Tour

Full day to explore Colombia´s capital city of Bogota, known for its colonial and authentic atmosphere. Walking through its cobblestoned streets, you will discover colorful restored colonial mansions, splendid carved wooden balconies as well as churches built in baroque style. Today, you'll visit: Cerro de Monserrate, a 3152m peak flanking the city´s east. From there, enjoy a stunning view over the city. Its top is accessible by cable car or by funicular railway. The Plaza de la Concordia, a lovely covered local market where you can taste many new exotic fruits. The Botero Museum: it is dedicated to the most famous Colombian artist, Fernando Botero. The Museum contains both his works (around a hundred of drawings, paintings and sculptures) as well as his private collection with no less than 85 masterpieces of well known artists, such as Dali, Renoir, Chagall, Picasso, Miro ... The Bolivar Square surrounded by Bogota´s grandest buildings, including the Town Hall, the Palace of Justice, Primatial Cathedral, Congress Building... Nemocon

Departure for the Boyaca department. Along the way you will stop at Nemocón Salt Mine, located thirty minutes from Zipaquira. There, 80 meters underground, you will cross 1600 meters of tunnels through which between 1816 and 1968, eight million tons of salt were extracted. Many optical effects caused by the dissolved rock salt show no less than 28 mirrors. Among the impressive attractions: the room of the chapel where there is a huge 1,300 kilos stone symbolizing the world, or the salt crystal of 1600 kilos cut into heart shape. City tour Villa de Leyva

Visit of the historical and cultural center of Villa de Leyva. Along the cobbled streets, you will discover the following sites: - The living places of the heroes of the Independence of Colombia (Casa Antonio Nariño and Casa Antonio Ricaurte) - El Carmen Church, which houses a small (but remarkable) museum of religious art with beautiful goldsmiths' work from the colonial era. - The Plaza Mayor, with an area of 14,000m2, is one of the largest paved squares in America. - Later, in the surroundings of Villa de Leyva, you will visit the Convent of Santo Ecce Homo, founded in 1620 by Dominican monks. The buildings of this monastery display many fossils dotted in stone. The original chapel has an impressive golden altar, while religious objects and works of art from the 16th to the 19th century are displayed. Note 1: 2 hours walk. Departure for the north-central department of Santander with its beautiful craggy mountains and its powerful waterfalls and rivers. Guane & Barichara

Let´s go for a walk through the cactus and the bucolic landscapes of the Camino Real path. This old paved trail was, during pre-Colombian time, the main road for the Guane indigenous people. Then, you will reach the village of Guane, where you will take the time to discover colonial architecture. Note 1: 3 to 4 one-way hike, level: medium Note 2: about 30 minutes drive back.  You will visit Barichara, considered as one of the most beautiful cities in Colombia. You will walk among the cobbled streets, visit the churches (Cathedral of Immaculate Conception and Santa Barbara Church) and discover the local workshops (stone carvers, cigar factory, etc…). During the visit of Barichara, you will be able to try « hormigas culonas » (grilled ants), the local speciality. On menu : history and explanations of this local tradition, preparation, cooking and tasting of ants with a corn specialty (like a delicious arepa from the Santander region.) and a fresh fruit juice. Early morning, departure for another day in the heart of the Santander department. Enjoy the impressive scenery of the Chicamocha Canyon. Return to Bucaramanga airport. Welcome to the « Coffee Triangle », including the departments of Caldas, Risaralda and Quindío, which together make up the heart of the Zona Cafetera, also called the Eje Cafetero. This area is famous for growing and producing the majority of the Colombian coffee, considered by some as the best coffee in the world. Transfer to your hotel in Salento. Coffee plantation visit.
