Puyuhuapi

Puyuhuapi is a village in the province of Aysen. Aysen, is the northernmost part of the Chilean Patagonia. It is one of the least inhabited places on Earth, with a population density of 0.7 inhabitants per square kilometer, making it, therefore, one of the most untouched places on the planet. The latter translates in a place of unparalleled beauty and breathtaking scenery. Given its location, the area receives few visitors during the year, adding to the uniqueness of the experience, unspoiled by mass tourism. Aysen’s islands and canals are famous for their beauty. A kayaking trip will yield views rarely seen by many, including the colonies of whales that come to the area to take shelter and feed. For angling enthusiasts, the region is home to a large number of rivers, ideal for fishing or white-water sports. The Carretera Austral is the sole route that links Aysen with the rest of Chile. Built at the end of the 70s, it is a far cry from a modern highway and more of adventure trail through the jungle, allowing travelers to progress safely through the vast vegetation of Patagonia. The Carretera Austral road opened in the 1980s. To access the city by land from Puerto Aisén, visitors must travel 68 kilometers to the East along Route 240. The crossroads with Route 7 must be reached from Puerto Cisnes and 130 kilometers are to be covered up to the Viviana Crossroads. The city lies 48 kilometers towards the southeast, across the Río Simpson Reserve. The name Coyhaique comes from the Tehuelche words koi, “pond” and áiken “camp”. The city is the place chosen by lovers of adventure, as the area features territories still unexplored by man. Coyhaique is surrounded by a crown of mountains covered by snow during most of the year. It is sometimes referred to as “the city of the everlasting snow Read more

El Chaltén is situated on the northern margin of Lago Viedma, in the confluence of rivers De las Vueltas and Fitz Roy, in the National Reserve Zona Viedma in Los Glaciares National Park. This landscape combines the magic of glaciers, hidden lagoons, estancias, Lake Viedma, and the magnetic presence of mount Fitz Roy. The summit of its unmistakable majestic silhouette is almost always covered in a cloud that the Tehuelche Indians thought was smoke, a mistake that gave origin to the name ´Chaltén´, which means volcano. El Chaltén is contiguous to Lake Viedma and its reserve, and has been declared National Hiking Capital for the variety of activities performed by hikers and climbers. Most outings start in town, and it is not necessary to be an expert to follow the circuits if you walk on a current trail. The granitic towers of the Torre and Fitz Roy mountains compose spectacular panorama together with glaciers Viedma, Upsala and Moyano, which drain into Lago Viedma. Read more
