Today’s sightseeing program includes two guided tours: a tour of the Main Museum Complex of the Hermitage and a tour of the Menshikov palace.
Founded in 1764 by the Russian empress Catherine the Great, the State Hermitage Museum is one of the oldest and largest art galleries in the world. It houses
more than 3 million works of art and world culture artefacts. Museum collections contain paintings, graphic works, sculptures, works of applied art, archaeological artefacts and numismatic objects. During the tour you will visit 4 buildings of the Main Museum Complex (the Winter Palace, Small Hermitage, Old Hermitage and New Hermitage) to see works by old masters (Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Roden, Rembrandt, Rubens, etc.)
Sightseeing program will continue in the Menshikov Palace - one of the very first buildings in St.Petersburg and an outstanding example of Petrine Baroque architecture, constructed in 1710-1727. The palace used to belong to Prince Alexander Menshikov – the first governor of St.Petersburg and a close associate of Peter the Great. You will see palace interiors decorated with marble, paintings and moldings, sculptures, carved and inlaid wood, Dutch and Russian tiles, expensive drapery and tapestries. On display are unique pieces of art dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries: sculpture, paintings, engravings, furniture and other objects, including Menshikov's own belongings.
