Mgahinga is part of the Virunga Mountains having 3 major peaks Muhavura, Gahinga and Sabinyo. Being smallest park in Uganda it is richly endowed with a great scenery, various primate species mainly the mountain gorillas, golden monkeys among others plus over 100 bird species. The park accommodates a unique type of Gorillas known as the (Nyakagezi type) that is found at the park has greatly contributed to the massive attraction of tourists to the park

After an early morning breakfast, our Tour Guide/ Driver will come pick you from your hotel and drive you to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. This 8 hour journey takes you south west all the way to Kisoro while enjoying the beautiful scenery as you sit back and admire the Kigezi highlands, the sloppy terraces of Kisoro, thousands of plantations on the road side, views of the Virunga ranges and various lakes. On arrival you will experience a cultural encounter. Here is where you are taken into Mgahinga’s forest, a home for the Batwa people. You get to learn about the lives of the indigenous Batwa on the Batwa Trail. A local guide will take you through the 8km gentle trail in the Park, demonstrating their traditional ways of life along the way, including hunting, gathering honey, fire making and fetching water. The trail culminates with a moving performance in the Garama Cave, an important spiritual and cultural site for the Batwa. Today is the day you will go for the exciting Gorilla tracking activity in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. You will enjoy an early breakfast before you head out, with your packed lunch, to track gorillas which can go up to 2-4 hours depending on how soon you come across a gorilla family. When you come close to the gorillas, you will spend an hour with them and also can participate in photography although not with too camera flash. After you have your breakfast, you will go out for mountain climbing on one of the Volcanoe mountains. You will be hiking on any of the volcanic peaks of your choice and this requires fitness and an early start. This takes a full day climbing either on Mt Gahinga, Mt Sabinyo or Mt Muhavura and these picturesque, conical volcanoes straddle Uganda’s borders with Democartic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, and on a clear day the peaks offer astounding views of all three countries. Unforgettable Murchison falls & Budongo! We spent 6 day Safari tour days on safari with Harrison our guide/driver from StarMount Safaris. We weren't expecting a welcome party at the airport but there they were; the owner and the guide to give us a warm welcome to Uganda.
