Upon arrival, meet and greeted at the airport and transfer to hotel. This afternoon climb Phu Si-hill to enjoy the view overlooking the city and watch the amazing sunset. From here we can see the magic Mekong and the small Nam Khan rivers. After breakfast, get a transfer to the pier then enjoy a trip by private long boat on the Mekong river to the holy cave of Pak Ou that carved into mountain cliff by the Mekong River, housing thousands of Buddha statues and is holy destination for Laos pilgrims. Along the cruise we will have stops to visit Ban Xang Hai (Lao Lum), where the distillation of rice whisky (Lou Lao) can be seen, Ban Xang Khong and Ban Pak Ou. Drive to Vientiane, the capital of Laos. After checking in your hotel we'll start visiting the major sights of interest of Vientiane including Wat Sisaket, a temple of thousands of miniature Buddha statues, the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image, sacred structure of That Luang Stupa and the imposing Phatuxay Monument, which is Vientiane ’s own Arc de Triumph. Breakfast, we take an early flight to Pakse. Upon arrival we will drive to Bolaven Plateau where there are the coffee and tea plantations, on the way we also visit the villages of Lao Theung. Stay overnight in Tadlo.
Drive back Pakse and travel on a wonderful local ferry over the Mekong River to Champassak. Here we visit the sacred Khmer temple of Wat Phu. This complex represents the most eastern border of the Khmer Empire in the 4th century. Later in the afternoon we take a scenic drive and ferry boat to Don Khong. This island is one of the larger permanently inhabited islands in the ‘si pan don’ area. Dong Khong is best explored by bicycle. A reasonable dirt road circumvents the island. By boat we’ll explore the 4000 islands area (si pan don). Here, the Mekong river is at its widest. During the rainy season it is up to 12 km across. When the waters recede, many small islands emerge. It is from this phenomenon that the region takes its name. From far distance you can hear the unmistakable roar of the Khone Phapheng and Li Phi falls, which we will visit today. Nearby the falls live some hundred Irrawaddy freshwater dolphins. Ban Hang Khon is one of the rare places on earth to spot these endangered mammals. Also see the old locomotive, railway and colonial bridge built by the French to avoid navigating on the rapids and waterfalls that abound on this section of the Mekong. I cannot recommend this company high enough. All we had to do was tell Ms Ngoan Le our travel consultant at the company the area and an idea of what we wanted to see and she did the rest, which included booking hotels, organising our tour and our own personal tour guide and driver . We ended up having a fantastic holiday of a lifetime. Our guide 'Vu' was so friendly and knowledgeable about everywhere we went. Our tour included an overnight stay at a Homestay which I was a little unsure about but Ms Ngoan assured me that I would enjoy it and that it would be a very good way to experience the home life of the Vietnamese. In the event it was a wonderful experience thanks to our guide 'Vu' and the family we stayed with. Ms Ngoan was right. We also took the tour of the Cu Chi tunnels, City tour of Saigon and the early morning tour which included seeing how the Vietnamese start their day doing Tai Chi, aerobics, badminton etc in the parks. We also visited the fresh food markets. All the tours were so interesting made especially so thanks to the detailed knowledge and friendly approach of 'Vu'. You will not find a better tour company in the whole of Vietnam. Read more
Thanks to Travel Authentic Asia our cruise of SE Asia was a pleasure! Our cruise ship offered tours at three times the price in some cases and had far less qualified guides. Travel Authentic was punctual, knowledgeable and friendly. The follow-up with Ngoan was thorough and efficient as well. Arriving in Hanoi, we were at the mercy of our tour guide, Sonny. His introduction, presentation and welcome was truly professional. Something about him gave us a very positive vibe that we were in for a good time. The tour was well paced and with a very knowledgeable and passionate tour guide, the trip was made a bit more memorable. Having private guides is definitely recommended. Travelling across Vietnam we had other tour guides and all were really good and pleasant to deal with. The guides took care of small details. Sense of humour, good command of English, accommodating changes on the run was really appreciated. All the hotels were of a good/high standards, the drivers made the trips safer and the best experience was the cyclo ride in Hanoi. The people were nice and the most memorable moment we recall: a local lady seeing my daughter stuck on the other side of the road went back across and guided my daughter safely weaving through the rushing traffic with such an ease in HCM city. What kindness from the people of Vietnam. Vietnam and Cambodia are great places to visit as they have lots of history, beauty and scenic places to see and having Travel Authentic Asia organise it all meant we could totally enjoy the trip without having to worry about hotels, transports and most meals. Definitely recommend them to anyone contemplating visiting Vietnam/Cambodia. Read more
