Lhasa highlights escorted tour After breakfast, we go to the Potala Palace, a golden feather upon the roof of the world, which Tibetans proudly claim to be the prime miracle since the creation of this world. With the golden roof shinning in the sun, it is visible from any distance. You can spend one hour wondering around the inside of this magnificent building and exploring the rooms previously used by the Dalai Lama and many Buddhist icons within. In the afternoon we go inside of the Jokhang. The Jokhang, like most of the larger temple structures having numerous individual temples within it, dedicated to specific enlightened beings, protectors, high lamas, or saints. Images, both sculpted and painted, are everywhere. Every inch of wall and ceiling is brightly painted with images of clouds, beings, mandalas, or decorative patterns. Colorful silk banners, three stories high, hang in various places. Color, pattern, and images crowd in around you. The central image inside the building is a 30-foot-high gilded image of Maitreya Buddha. Then stroll around the back alleys of the Barkhor area of Old Lhasa. The streets smelled of yak butter and incense while hordes of pilgrims shuffled along the main Kora (circumambulations) around Jokhang Temple. Dickey Orphanage & Sera Monastery In Lhasa, there’s been a “sweet home” to over 80 children, most of whom are orphans. It’s called Dickey Orphanage. Have a visit there, share your family love with those homeless children. You can enjoy a beverage or food at the Fine and Happiness Teahouse run by the orphanage, they serve noodles, yak curry, fried rice and all sorts of tea, proceeds will benefit the orphanage. The majority of the children are between six and nine years old. You can bring some warm clothing or basic medication, e.g. eye drops, nose drops, band aids, as well as some stationery for the school age children. Or you can visit the gift shop at the orphanage, they sell hand-made bags, rugs, jewelry and pottery. You can spend the afternoon touring Sera Monastery and have a little hike for the beautiful valley scenery nearby and picnic there. Sera monastery was created in 1419 and has always been an important Buddhist seminary. As rose are planted everywhere in the monastery, it is also called “the court of wild rose”. Lake Yamdrok Yumtso In the morning drive along the Kyichu River to the Kamba La (4.796 m), have a fantastic view of the holy lake Yamdrokthere (4441 m). It is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet and the largest habitat of waterfowls in south Tibet. To the interior of the lake ten or so hilly islands stand independently one from the other which give homes to flocks of wild ducks. A lot of colorful ducks and geese are swimming on the surface of the lake. There is also plenty of natural fodder for the fish in the lake. The lake has a fish reserve of about 300 million kilograms. That is why it is called "the Fish Store of Tibet". The coast of the lake is an ideal pasture. All these make an intoxicating quite picture. Have a picnic with your families by the lake.
