Our guide awaits you at the reception of your hotel at your convenient time to start the Honduras tour. Before heading to embark on the Copán Ruinas trip, we visit the traditional and colourful handcraft Guamilito market. Not only fruits, vegetables, spices and meat are for sale, but also a lot of handcraft, such as pottery, wooden and leather articles. The transfer to Copán takes about three hours. On the way you can observe the diversity of landscapes Honduras has to offer. Upon arrival you move into your room in the centrally located hotel. After breakfast our guide guides you on a 30 minute Copán Ruinas trip. Representing the southeast limit to the spread of the Maya world, the city-state of Copán became the Maya's crowning artistic achievement, the cultural apex of the Maya civilization. Leader among all Mayan cities in terms of quantity and quality of stone sculpture, it has been dubbed the Athens of the New World. Appreciate to its full the significant number of ruins surrounded by giant trees that provide shades all over the site. Read more
Today we leave Copán and continue to start the Tela tour, which is a small town located at the Caribbean coast of Honduras, that became one of the most important ports of Central America at the beginning of the 20th century as trans-shipment centre of the country's most important export product, the banana. Nowadays Tela is famous for its beaches and the beauty of its protected areas. Before we reach Tela, also on our Honduras tour, we visit one of the largest botanical gardens worldwide, the Lancetilla Botanical Garden. Here you will find hardwood, medicinal and ornamental plants as well as tropical fruit trees from all over the world. Due to its variety of plant species, the park is a paradise for birds. More than 300 species have been counted so far, among them toucans, humming-birds and kingfishers. After the Tela tour, spend two nights accommodation at the seaside hotel Villas Telamar. Read more
In the morning you leave with your local guide for Punta Izopo National Park, located on the eastern end of the bay of Tela to continue the Honduras tour. This excursion involves kayaking through the maze of mangrove creeks and rivers that make up this national park. The kayaks offer the perfect mode of transport to explore the mangroves and silently sneak up on the many animals and birds that inhabit the park. In addition to the American crocodile, the green iguana, the black iguana and the boa constrictor, four species of ocean turtles inhabit the park. During March and April you can observe many birds in courtship, copulation and nest building. Later we transfer to the beautiful Garifuna beach of Triunfo de la Cruz, where you can enjoy a delicious meal, swim in the sea and relax. In the afternoon we return to Tela. Read more
This morning is left free to relax on the beach or at the hotel pool. Later we head to the next stop of the Honduras tour and transfer along the coast towards La Ceiba passing pineapple plantations. Located just a few miles from the city of La Ceiba, at the entrance of Honduras second largest national park, the Lodge Pico Bonito is one of the best lodges in the region and is a member of "Small Luxury Hotels of the World". In addition to various hiking trails and observation towers, on the lodge's ground there are an iguana farm, a serpentarium and a commercial butterfly farm that breeds over 40 species of tropical butterflies including the stunning blue morpho. Pico Bonito National Park is one of the most beautiful national parks in Honduras. Due to abrupt altitude differences its natural diversity is exceptionally high. Above 1,200 m the vegetation of Pico Bonito begins to change from tropical rainforest to cloud forest. With a local guide you experience the national park. The 2,436 m high Pico Bonito peak is the centrepiece of the park. It's the third highest peak of the country. In the morning you will have a wonderful panoramic view of the surrounding mountain looming and the nearby town La Ceiba. Within the protected area you find waterfalls up to 25m high. Read more
You are transferred to the airport in La Ceiba, where your Honduras tour ends. Take a flight (not included) back to San Pedro Sula or continue your tour with a visit to the Bay Islands. 50 km in front of the Atlantic coast of Honduras these Caribbean islands are situated amidst the second largest coral reef worldwide. The diving or snorkel adventure starts just beneath the water surface of the calm crystal clear sea. On dreamlike white beaches you will be treated with pure recreation and relaxation. Read more
