Overnights in Copan

Copán Ruinas Tour

After breakfast we walk to the nearby archaeological park, which belongs to the most superb ones in the Mayan world to begin the Copán Ruinas tour. Inhabited for more than 2,000 years, its golden age was from the 5th to the 9th century when it far preceded other Mayan and European civilizations in its development of astronomy, sculpture, and writing. One of the highlights of the Copán Ruinas tour is the impressive hieroglyphic stairway, with over 2,500 hieroglyphs universally recognized as the most extensive hieroglyphic text of the ancient New World. This majestic construction is part of a temple that was built, at least in its final stage, by the fifteenth ruler of Copan in 755 A.C. Although not fully decoded, numerous studies have shown that the text narrates the dynastic history of Copán. We continue our Copán Ruinas tour at Las Sepulturas, a residential and burial site providing valuable insights to the live of Copan's ruling elite. Read more

Copán Ruinas - Santa Rosa Tour

In the morning we drive to Finca Santa Isabel, located about 20 miles from Copán. Our tour through the coffee plantation begins high in the mountains, at the plant nursery, where young plants are nurtured until they are ready to become a part of the Finca. From here we wander down the well-groomed trails that meander through the lush, green foliage of the rainforest canopy. We learn about the growing, harvesting, and processing from bean to cup. After having lunch at the Finca, we continue to Santa Rosa de Copán, the most important city in Western Honduras. In the Santa Rosa tour discover the charming city centre, with its cobblestone streets and picturesque buildings, dates back to colonial times. After its foundation in 1705, the town soon became the centre of the tobacco production in Honduras thanks to its fertile soil and mild climate. Overnight in Santa Rosa de Copán. Read more

Santa Rosa Tour - Tegucigalpa

We continue the Santa Rosa tour and visit the town's colonial centre and visit the famous Flor de Copán tobacco factory (closed on Sundays). The factory produces about sixty very exclusive brands. During the traditional production process cigars are rolled by hand and covered by thin cedar wood, which characterizes the distinctive aroma of the Flor de Copán cigars. Nearly 50,000 handmade cigars are produced daily and sent to customers in Europe, America, China and Russia. Later we continue to Tegucigalpa. En route we stop at interesting places to stretch. The origin of Honduras' capital dates back to the 16th century and is linked to the discovery of silver deposits in the surrounding areas. This colonial and mining past is still palpable in the historic centre. Overnight in Tegucigalpa. Read more
