The east coast is the most luxuriant of the whole regions of Madagascar. This is due to the high rainfall throughout the year. As a result, the eastern coast offers rich and extraordinary vegetation including the following: Ravinala Palms also known as the “Traveler’s tree”, coconut palms, beautiful flowers, perfumed essences and spices, ferns and all kinds of tropical plants. The itinerary goes from the capital to the coast of Toamasina.
(297 Km – about 06 hours) Departure in private car along the road that crosses the oriental highland, among pines and eucalyptus forests, rice fields on cultivated plains and the typical villages of the local populations Merina and Bezanozano; lunch in a restaurant along the road; then continuation of the road itinerary up to Manambato village, on the shore of Pangalana Channel, an inland freshwater system, which mirrors the backwaters of Kerala, in south/west India, to which Madagascar was united in past geological eras; from there, short navigation of about 40' to reach Ampitabe Lake where Ankanin'ny Nofy site is located; upon arrival, accommodation at Le Palmarium Hotel (Ecolodge) or similar; at dusk, transfer on pirogue to visit an islet not far away, that is home to the Aye-Aye lemurs, one of the rarest living species; at the end of the visit, return to the hotel; dinner and overnight stay. (Boat Transfer): After the breakfast, visit of the luxuriant Palmarium reserve; the lush and aromatic vegetation of the region includes plantations of coffee, cocoa, lychee, cinnamon and vanilla; the isolation of the reserve makes it one of the few places in Madagascar where you can get close to some of the least shy and tame lemur species of the island, as well as frogs, harmless reptiles, orchids, palm trees, among which stands out the Ravinala, iconic emblem of Madagascar; at the end, time at your disposal on the shores of the lake where, weather permitting, you can take relaxing baths in the clear waters; lunch at the hotel; then, boarding for the trip by boat for about 2 hours up to Toamasina, between two wings of lush forest, which occasionally open into large lakes; on arrival transfer to the hotel Java (3*) or similar; in the evening, dinner and overnight at the hotel.
