DAY 1
Food tour evening experience by tuk tuk
Upon arrival Siem Reap International Airport, after clearing all customs procedures, walk to the main exit gate, you will be met by Trails of Indochina representative carrying Trails of Indochina signboard with your name on it. If you are unable to locate the representative, please call our Customer Care Manager for immediate assistance. Transfer from airport to your hotel with guide. Spend the evening with your private guide gaining a genuine insight into Cambodian food the way the locals like it. You will be picked up from your hotel in the early evening and whisked away by tuk tuk as darkness begins to fall. We begin the evening with a quick stop to sample a traditional Cambodian Tipple with a twist. You will rejoin your tuk tuk where you will continue on to Angkor Kyung Yu Road, otherwise known as Road 60 where busy street food stalls, well away from the cozy tourist bars line up along the streets. This area is hugely popular with local families who come out to dine in the early evening, it’s a real feast for the senses. You will sample a range of exotic fruits, grilled meats and if you’re brave enough fried insects. Cambodians love to eat and virtually anything is on the menu. A stop at a truly local restaurant will ensure that even those with the heartiest appetites will not go hungry. You can enjoy a local beer or two along the way if you so wish to wash all the tasty morsels down. If time allows you will take a walk through the alleys and side streets around the old market area tasting as you go. Our final stop of the evening will be to sample a flight of local craft beers to really finish of a great evening of culinary exploration. DAY 2
Full Day Angkor Highlights with Tuk Tuk
Depart early in the morning to explore Srah Srang reservoir and Ta Prohm temple, some of Angkor’s jewels. At Ta Prohm, the magnificent roots of the trees have merged over the centuries with the temple’s huge stone blocks, emphasising a ‘forgotten city’ feeling. The temple was built by King Jayavarman VII to commemorate his mother. Take your time to walk through the temple from the West entrance to the East entrance (walk 1-2 km) where your tuk tuk will be waiting for you to continue your ride through the forest to the banks of Srah Srang. End the morning at Banteay Kdei, one of Angkor’s largest structures in the area and well worth a visit. Return by road to Siem Reap for lunch (on your own). Our guide can suggest a wide range of delicious restaurant options for lunch or you may decide to relax and enjoy the facilities of your hotel. This afternoon, visit the Royal city and former capital of the Khmer Empire; Angkor Thom which consists of several temples. Enter the city through the impressive South Gate and drive towards the Bayon temple. At first glance, the temple may seem like a shapeless mass of stone, but further scrutiny reveals enigmatic faces looking into every direction, built to watch over the kingdom from all directions. Continue your exploration with a visit to the Terrace of the Elephants, which served as a platform from where the King viewed the victorious return of his army. After, visit the Terrace of the Leper King with detailed carvings winding along a narrow passage way that leads to the Baphuon. Slow down the pace mid-afternoon and enter the cool Wat Tang Tock to receive a traditional blessing from a monk. Later, visit the picturesque Preah Paliday and Pimeanakas. End the day with an optional visit to one of grass terraces in front of the five massive towers of Angkor Wat to watch the sunset before transferring back to your hotel. Banteay Srei Area / Phare Circus with pr
Depart this morning for Banteay Srei temple, the only major temple that was not built by a monarch. It was constructed in the 10th century and was dedicated to the Hindu god - Shiva. Banteay Srei translates to “Citadel of the Women” and is one of Angkor’s most significant structures as its walls are decorated with elaborate carvings which have been preserved remarkably well. After a refreshing drink (own arrangements) at Prasat Banteay Srei Restaurant, head to the Banteay Srey Butterfly Center, an interactive butterfly farm nestled in a luxurious tropical garden. Morning is the best time of the day to spot as many butterflies as possible. Thousands of free flying Southeast Asian species will surround you. You will also be able to learn more about their life cycle, feed them and support knowledgeable local farmers. Then transfer back to town.
