11-day Northern Namibia Self-Drive Adventure

11-day Northern Namibia Self-Drive Adventure

This Northern Circuit self-drive tour includes all of Namibia's must see places. You will start in the capital Windhoek and then make your way to the oldest desert in the world, the Namib Desert with its red sand dunes. After your desert experience head up north to the German coastal town of Swakopmund, before you explore Twyfelfontein's rock art. In Damaraland go and search for the desert elephants and then enter Etosha National Park, for a few days

Windhoek

After your arrival at Windhoek airport, you will be met and taken to the rental car depot to pick-up your car. After a briefing on your upcoming safari, you will make your way to Villa Violet, where you will have dinner and get acclimatised to the area. Situated in Central Namibia, the cosmopolitan city of Windhoek serves as the capital of the country. The city has a colonial legacy that is reflected in its many German eateries and shops, and the widespread use of the German language. Windhoek has an interesting mix of historical architecture and modern buildings, many of which are worth a look, including the Alte Feste an old fort, the 1896 Christuskirche Christ Church, and the more contemporary Supreme Court. Windhoek - Sossusvlei

After breakfast, make your way to Sossusvlei, where you will stay for 2 nights at Desert Camp. The drive will take about 5 hours on a good gravel road. Settle in and enjoy your first sundowner drink in Namibia before dinner and afterwards have a look at the incredible night sky!

Sossusvlei

Sossusvlei

Wake up early and drive into Namib Naukluft National Park, just as the sun rises, to see the spectacular colour change of the iconic dunes as the sun climbs higher in the sky. Some of the dunes rise to almost 400 metres and are some of the highest in the world. After the sun is up, climb dune 45 and visit Big Mama, Dead vlei and maybe also Sesriem Canyon on the way back (you will have to take a 4x4 shuttle from the parking space in the park to get all the way to Dead vlei. Those shuttles do not have to be prebooked and can just be picked up on the spot). The clear blue skies contrast with the giant red dunes make this one of the most scenic natural wonders of Africa and a photographer's heaven. Read more

Sossusvlei

Sossusvlei - Swakopmund

After breakfast, check-out and drive up further up north, through those ever-changing landscapes, all the way to the coast, where you will stay for one night in the German town of Swakopmund. On your way, stop at the giant Welwitchia. The drive will take about 4 hours, without stops. Have a stroll through town and maybe along the beach, looking out onto the rough and cold Atlantic Ocean. In the evening enjoy a German meal in one of the many restaurants. Read more

Swakopmund

Swakopmund - Twyfelfontein

Leave Swakopmund early (around 8am) and drive up the Skeletton coast to Cape Cross, to have a quick look at the world's largest seal colony, before you turn around to drive inland to Twyfelfontein area. The driving time will be about 6 hours. Set in the Kunene Region of northwestern Namibia, Twylfelfontein is a spectacularly scenic area, featuring one of the largest and most important concentrations of rock art in Africa. The name ‘Twyfelfontein’ translates to ‘Fountain of Doubt’, which refers to the perennial spring situated in the impressive Huab valley flanked by the slopes of a sandstone table mountain. Read more
