Quito

Your adventures begin in Quito, where we will visit the old town with its beautiful narrow streets and the colonial churches of San Francisco, La Compañia, and may more interesting landmarks of the Colonial Center. This visit is followed by a short stop at the top of El Panecillo hill from where we get a spectacular view of the city. In the afternoon, we visit the Equator monument the Ethnographical museum, and a representation of the colonial towns or past centuries. Breakfast included. Read more

Quito

Departing from Quito, we will drive north to the city of Cayambe to try the famous “Biscochos” biscuits, and then continue to the city of Otavalo. After checking in at the hotel we continue to visit the beautiful Cuicocha Lake. We will have some free time for shopping in the nearby Cotacachi town, famous for its quality leather goods. Finally, we will visit the indigenous village of Peguche where we can meet the well-known Otavalo Indigenous people. We will overnight in Otavalo. Breakfast included. Read more

Otavalo

In the morning, we will visit the famous Indian market in Otavalo. Our day will continue afterwards up to the beautiful highlands of the Mojanda Lake reserve. On the way, we will enjoy great views of the Ecuadorian Andes and of the Ecuadorian countryside. Afterwards we have a car ride south towards the foothills of the Pasochoa Volcano where we will visit the Pasochoa Forest Reserve. We will have some time to enjoy a nice hike on this beautiful area. Machachi

From Machachi, we travel southwards along the Pan-American Highway to see the slow and constant activity of the legendary Cotopaxi Volcano, one of the tallest in the world. We will head towards one of the best spots for photography where we might be able to get some truly amazing shots if the weather permits. Enjoy a hike around the Limpiopungo lagoon located at 3800 meters of altitude. Then we continue our drive along scenic highlands of the western Cordillera de los Andes and towards the Sigchos town. From Sigchos we continue driving for about 40 minutes to finally arrive to the hotel located in Chugchillan town. Breakfast included. Read more

Chugchillan

On the second day of our tour and after breakfast, we will drive east making a short journey to the Quilotoa Volcano where inside is located a beautiful lagoon. Here we will enjoy a hike to go down to the shores of the lagoon or go around the rim of the crater while enjoying amazing views of the Andes. Afterwards we will drive to Zumbahua, one of the most unspoiled highland areas of Ecuador and which offers nice views of the area and the enjoyment of the Indigenous Market (which runs every Saturday). Later, and passing the village of Pujili (Indian market runs every Wednesday), we continue our drive to the city of Ambato and finally in the late afternoon we will arrive in Baños, a picturesque city located at the gateway to the jungle, where we will stay overnight. Baños

After breakfast, we drive to the city of Ambato continuing the route to Guaranda. At the point known as El Arenal, we enter on the secondary road which takes you up to the highlands of Chimborazo, Ecuador’s highest volcano. Here it is possible to observe graceful vicuñas and admire this impressive mountain. If we all feel in decent shape, perhaps we can do a walk up to the Whymper refuge at 5000 m. We descend to the village of San Juan from where we continue to the city of Riobamba for a good night’s sleep in a local hotel. Breakfast included. Read more

Riobamba

Early morning awakes up and start our journey to the train station of Alausi, from where you will have the opportunity to travel on the famous Andean Train which makes de rail pass known as the “Devil’s nose”, an impressive engineering rail work of the 19th century. We will enjoy a great trip admiring beautiful Andean landscapes. The train arrives to the small town of Huigra from where by car, we continue towards Ingapirca village and where we find the remains of the biggest Inca city of Ecuador. After a morning walking tour to the Inca remains of Ingapirca, we will drive towards Cuenca city, one of the most interesting cities in Ecuador with its typical Spanish-style houses, museums, and which also offers many fun activities. Cuenca

Morning visit to the beautiful El Cajas National Park, a protected area where we find mesmerizing landscapes, lakes, different species of highland birds, Andean flora and with luck, perhaps we can observe the impressive flight of the condor. After breakfast, we transport you to the airport, to take our flight back to Quito. We will enjoy some free time in the afternoon in Quito for some last-minute shopping or exploration. Breakfast included.
