In this both historic and adventurous sites tour is included the visit to Bahir Dar, Gondar, the Simien Mountains National Park, Lalibela, Axum, Lake Asale, one of the lowest point of the world- Dallol, Erta Ale-live volcano and Lake Afdera.

Fly to Bahir Dar

Morning fly to embark on your Bahir Dar tour. Meet your driver at the airport and head to the spectacular waterfalls 35kms per way from Bahir Dar and 30 minutes’ walk per way to the view point of the waterfall. Enjoy taking pictures of the landscape, streams, clouds and rainbows. Afterward, drive back to Bahir Dar and after lunch have a boat trip on Lake Tana to visit one of the most impressive churches of the area-Ura Kidanemihret church with beautiful paintings of murals. While still on this Bahir Dar tour, walk for at least 25 minutes per way through the coffee forest to the church. Back to the city and check in at Abayminch Lodge or similar. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge, ending here your Bahir Dar tour. Read more

Bahir Dar - 1 night

Drive to Gondar (180km)

After breakfast, drive north of Bahir Dar to Gondar through the beautiful plains, breath-taking hilly landscape of Teragedam Mountain, and some stops for views. Transfer to Goha Hotel or similar to check-in and for lunch. In the afternoon explore the 17th century capital of Ethiopia. Visit the castle compound where you can explore the medieval palaces/castles of Emperor Fasiledas, Yohannes, Eyasu, David, Bakaffa and Queen Mentuab. Also visit the church of Debre Birhan Selassie with its famous murals and paintings of more than 80 winged-angels covering the ceiling. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel. Read more

Gondar-1 night

Simien Mountains Excursion

After breakfast start driving to embark on the Simien Mountains excursion in its National Park. On the way stop at ‘Weleka’- the former Ethiopian Jewish village and see works of pottery and an old synagogue. Continue driving through the breathtakingly beautiful region of the Simien Mountains with many peaks above 13,000 feet. The vast and unique highland plateau is capped by a dramatic skyline of jagged volcanic plugs and split by deep gorges and gullies. The striking tower formations have been described as the “chess pieces of the gods.” On this Simien Mountains excursion discover that it is also an area rich in flora and fauna, home to the Gelada Baboons, Walya Ibex, Klipspringers, grey duikers and Wattled Ibis. Continue your Simien Mountains excursion and have a two hours trek around Sankaber and enjoy the spectacular landscapes at different viewpoints. Afternoon, drive back to Gondar. Dinner and overnight stay at Taye Hotel or similar, ending here the adventurous Simien Mountains excursion. Read more

Flight to Lalibela

After the Simien Mountains excursion experience, in the morning check in at the airport and fly to Lalibela. Up on arrival meet your driver and transfer to Tukul Village Hotel. After a while, go out for the visit of the first group of rock-hewn churches of Lalibela which includes Bete Medhanealem, Bete Maryam, Bete Meskel, Bete Denagil and the “double church” of Debre Sina, Bete Gologota and the Selassie-Chapel. After lunch, explore the second group of rock-hewn churches- Bete Emanuel. Bete Mercurios, Bete Abba Libanos, Betelhem, and the double church of Bete Gebreiel-Rafael. Also visit the famous cross-shaped church of Bete Giorgis which stands separately from the two main groups. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel. Read more

Lalibela-1 night

Drive to Mekele (271kms)

After breakfast start driving to Mekele. Shortly after turn to visit Yeha, the first capital of the Axumite, a pre-Christian temple 12 meters high, which dates from about the eighth century BC and called the Temple of the Moon; in the small museum of the adjacent church of Abuna Aftse you can admire a collection of ancient artifacts such as stone inscriptions in language sabea, crosses in gold and silver manuals dating back hundreds of years ago and some illuminated manuscripts. Lunch en route and continue driving and explore the church of Abraha Atsbeha; one of the most beautiful in the region, is famous for its beautiful carved ceiling supported by 13 large pillars and many arches superbly decorated. Within the structure are cruciform three shrines dedicated respectively to St. Gabriel, Michael and Mariam. Among the many treasures that the church has, the most important is the manual cross belonged to the first bishop of Ethiopia, Abuna Salama. Finally visit 'Wukro Cherkos which is a monolithic church of sandstone, dating from the eighth century and famous for cubic capitals and the Axumite frieze decorating the walls. Mekele- 1 night

Mekele – Hamed Ela (3-4 hrs)

Morning fly to Mekele and meet our representative at the airport. Then drive to Hamed Ela. This is where the Danakil Depression begins. You pass through a small town of Berhale where the camel caravans stop before they proceed to the northern highlands and have lunch. Enjoy the spectacular view of the landscape created by volcanic activities. En route you see many long caravans going to the salt mines and others coming out of the Danakil with their salt loaded camels. Arrive in Hamed Ela and late in the afternoon drive to the salt lake called Lake Asale and enjoy the sunset with the late salt caravans. Dinner from your cook and overnight- camp at Hamed Ela. Hamed Ela-1 night

Hamed Ela - Dallol – Abala

After breakfast at around 06:30, head to Dallol. There enjoy the spectacular full of eye catching colors of sulphur springs. The desert has several points laying more than 100meter (328ft) below sea level. On the way back see where salt mines at a place called Ragad (Asebo). Observe the breaking of the slat from the ground, cut into rectangular pieces and loaded on camels and donkeys. Back to Hamed Ela for lunch and then drive to the town of Abala for an overnights stay at a basic guest house. Dinner from your cook. Read more

Abala-1 night

Abala –Erta Ale

After breakfast set out to set off on an Erta Ale hike trip. Lunch en route and enjoy views while passing through the changing landscapes of solidified lava, rock, sand, the occasional palm lined oasis and several small hamlets scattered here and there in this desert. Reach at Dodom and have dinner form your cook. Then start hiking (3-4 hours) to Ertale while camels transport all the camping materials, sleeping materials, mattresses and water. You may hire camels for yourself as the hiking might be tough. Continue your Erta Ale hike trip and get to the rim of the live volcano and watch the unforgettable night by rim of the boiling larva lake. This is a shield volcano with a base diameter of 30 km and 1km square caldera at its summit. Overnight- stay at the camping sight nearby. Read more

Erta Ale-1 night

Erta Ale-Lake Afdera- Mekele and Fly to

Early morning rise with the sun and walk to the volcano for more observation, continuing your Erta Ale hike trip. Then leave around 7:00 to head back to Dodom for breakfast. After some time drive to Afdera, another salt lake for refreshment and swimming if you want and then have lunch. Finally drive to Mekele. Transfer to the airport to fly back to Addis. END OF SERVICE.
