Moremi Game Reserve is located in eastern part of the Okavango Delta. It covers up to one third of the Okavango Delta. The reserve was established in 1962 as a means to protect the natural unique habitat comprising of grasslands, mopane woodland to dry savannah, flood plains, permanent water ways, and lagoons. It is popularly known for its diverse concentration of wildlife species, birds and rich vegetation throughout the year. Read more
The wetlands give an incredible view and spectacular game sighting within the area. Safari activities are quite exceptional comprising of game drives and boat cruise in the flood plains and crossing. The highlights includes; the rare Sitatunga, Lechwe, Lion, Leopard. Large herds of Impala, Zebra and Buffalo normally flock to the beautiful floodplains to drink water. The papyrus along the water ways is normally a home to the Lechwe and is suitable for boat cruise; therefore, a full day boat cruise is vital to experience more of the uniqueness channels of delta. The Final destination will be in the Xakanaxa region where we explore the surrounding wilderness on morning and afternoon game drive excursions.
Xakanaxa is situated at in the heart of Moremi game reserve. It is concentrated with vast of wildlife and vegetation species. Every type of mopane habitat is well represented in this drive from the towering cathedral woodlands Xakanaxa to the classic climax mopane woodland and in the drier and harsher habitats, extensive stretches of scrub mopane. It is a good birding place. A good day for raptors with African Hawk-Eagle, Gabar Goshawk, Shikra, Little Sparrowhawk, Dark Chanting Goshawk, Tawny Eagle, Lesser Spotted Eagle* and Steppe Eagle* all inhabiting the mopane and adjacent woodlands. Other birds common along this route includes most of Botswana’s hornbills including Red-billed, Southern Yellow-billed, African Grey, Bradfield’s and the Southern Ground Hornbills.
