Heading to the God’s own country – Kerala , where you will experience great variety of natural landscapes, jungle, bright green paddies, lines of coconut trees and rugged coast. Arrive to Chennai,one of the four major metropolitan cities in India. A city boast of a rich heritage, which is elaborately intertwined with the culture, traditions and living style of the people through generations. DAY 2

Mahabalipuram UNESCO world

Morning travel by road to Mahabalipuram, a UNESCO world Heritage city. Enjoy the visit to the cave temples and sculpted reliefs of Five Rathas, Krishna Mandapam, Mahishasuramardhini Cave, Krishna Butterball, Arjuna's Penance and the Shore Temple. Five Rathas are the monolithic rock-cut temples known as the Pancha Pandava Rathas, and the four of the rathas are supposed to have been scooped out of a single rock formation. Arjuna's Penance is the world's largest bas-relief and pride of Mahabalipuram. This huge whale-back shaped rock contains figures of gods, demigods, men, beasts, and birds and in fact, can be said to represent creation itself. Pondicherry Sightseeing

Morning enjoy half day sightseeing tour that would include a visit to Auroville City, Sri Aurobindo Ashram and Sri Manakula Vinayagar Temple. Visit the international community of Auroville - a real example of community living and gradually flourishing, who ballooned to encompass more than 80 rural settlements spread over 20km, and about 1800 residents. Later enjoy a richshaw ride and a walking tour starting from Sri Aurobindo Ashram, going through the white town and the old town. Near to the Ashram, visit to Sri Manakula Vinayagar Temple and after visit the old town, which has a unique charm, which captivates the hearts of visitors. Chidambaram

Morning continue your journey by surface to Thanjavur. En-route visit Chidambaram, a small temple town where the Indian culture, tradition and religious rituals are preserved with all its aesthetic values and beauty, and is known for its Nataraja Temple. Later proceed for Thanjavur, known for its handloom silk sarees, cotton sarees and the most famous of the items is the Tanjore paintings which are in great demand all over the world. Excursion to Trichy

Morning enjoy a day excursion to Trichy, where you will visit the Rock Fort and Sri Rangnathaswamy Temple. Trichy is located on the Cauvery river banks and it gives an absolute combination of tradition and contemporary surroundings. The Rock Fort is an 84 m high rock which is one of the oldest in the world. On top there is the Ucchi Pillayar Koil, a temple dedicated to Lord Vinayaka, from where one can enjoy a panoramic view of Trichy.After, Thayumanaswami temple dedicated to Lord Siva and has a 100-pillar hall and a Vimana covered with gold. Later visit to Sri Rangnathaswamy Temple which is built on an island in the middle of the Cauvery River and devoted to Lord Vishnu. It is also the largest temple in the world. Evening is at leisure. Thanjavur and their Brihades

In the morning visit to Brihadeshwara Temple was built in the early 11th century. The temple dedicated to Lord Shiva has a 2.7 m high Shivalinga, which is about 7 m in diameter. The 70 m high ‘Vimana’ of the temple is built in such an architectural precision, that its shadow never falls outside itself. Later by surface travel to Madurai. Read more

DAY 8

Madurai Sightseeing

Madurai is known as Athens of the East, it is a place of great historical and cultural importance and is famous for the awe-inspiring Sri Meenakshi Temple complex. The Sri Meenakshi Temple is considered by many to be the height of South Indian temple architecture, as vital to the aesthetic heritage of this region as the Taj Mahal is to North India. It’s not so much a temple as a 6-hectare complex enclosed by 12 gopurams and all of which are carved with a staggering array of gods, goddesses, demons and heroes. Evening visit to the Sri Meenakshi Temple and witness “Going to Bed” Ceremony, where with lots of noise and commotion, the fish-eyed goddess and her husband are carried from their separate day time places to the inner sanctum, and placed together, for a night of love. DAY 9

Munnar

After Breakfast drive to Munnar - the gateway of hills in South India. At arrival visit the The Tea Factory and Museum, where photographs, machinery and memoirs that have contributed in the growth of tea plantations in Kerala are exhibited. After you will see the tea processing unit where you can see various stages of tea processing, and learn a thing or two about the production of black tea. DAY 10

Sightseeing in Munnar

After breakfast enjoy a half day Trek to Letchmi Hills. Start with a 30 to 40 minutes trek through the tea plantations, where at the top on a clear day, you can enjoy the view of the Anaimudi (highest mountain peak in South India) and a water reservoir of Idukki Dam (highest arch dam in Asia). Later visit to Eravikulam National Park, a 97 sq. km reserve for the endangered mountain goat of South India called Nilgiri Tahr and a number of other protected species of flora and fauna. DAY 11

Spice Plantations in Peryiar

After breakfast drive to Periyar, a nature lovers’ delight with its unspoilt tropical forests and incredible wildlife. It is a quaint little hill town surrounded by the spice plantations like cardamom, pepper, cinnamon, tea and coffee plantations. After arrival visit the Spice Plantation, where you will enjoy a walk through the spice plantation along with the information on various spices and their medicinal value. The major attraction is the shrub-like cardamom that contributes about 70 percent of the national production of cardamom. Evening is for leisure. Overnight stay at hotel. Read more

DAY 12

Nature in Periyar

In the morning enjoy a boat safari in the Periyar National Park. The Periyar National Park is fully covered with dense forests and green grass lands making it an ideal place for wildlife. On a boat safari you can commonly see a family of elephants, Wild Boar and Sambar Deer by the water's edge. This park has been declared as a Tiger Reserve in 1982. Afternoon enjoy a short Nature Walk. This 3 hour walking tour gives a real feel of nature with chirping of birds and fresh fragrance of flowers. Walking through the natural surroundings gives an excelling opportunity to pass through the evergreen and moist deciduous forests interspersed with marshy grasslands and watching birds, butterflies and wildlife as we move further. Backwaters of Alleppey

After breakfast drive to Alleyppey. Alleppey is one of the most important tourist centers in the state, with a large network of inland canals earning the sobriquet of "Venice of the east". The boat cruise along the backwaters of Alleppey give one first hand experience of the life style; toddy tapping, fishing for small fry, Coir-making, prawn farming etc., which remains more or less unchanged over the years. DAY 14

Cochin

Morning by surface travel to Cochin, a vibrant city situated on the south-west coast of the Indian peninsula in the breathtakingly scenic and prosperous state of Kerala. Enjoy a half day sightseeing tour of Cochin, exploring the charming Fort Cochin, visit Jewish Synagogue, Dutch Palace, Jew Town, and St Francis church. Fort Kochi is a small village where there are many famous Chinese fishing nets as well as many sailing ships throughout their beaches. This is the only location in the entire world outside of China where such fishing nets can be seen in use. The Dutch Palace is a beautiful palace with impressive furnishing where the main attractions here are the outstanding collection of mural paintings found inside. The St. Francis Church is the oldest church in India to have been built by the Europeans and is famous for being the initial burial place for Vasco Da Gama. Hello! ​ ​ After a few days of rest from the wonderful Gujarat trip Colouricious offered, I would like to take a moment of giving some feedback. ​ ​ Gautam was an excellent host/coordinator and expert on our trip. He has a unique ability to communicate with anybody, the Rabari nomads on the road, the British ladies, a small country Muslim community and more. He has built up many excellent relationships with so many people and it makes the trip more interesting. His pace of instruction and points of interest were spot on. ​ ​ There are so many memories, thankfully caught by camera to remind me of this trip. ​ ​ Here are but a few:​ ​ . seeing the nomads on the road, with their children and tables on their camels . going to a small encampment of travellers where children were making beaded bracelets (great skills actually) . Seeing a cotton factory and talking to the owner!​ ​ . Seeing a tribal dance at the Rann Riders and looking at the women's dress and jewellery . Seeing bells made and seeing a small community, I was particularly impressed with the community and how they interacted with a member of their community with autism.​ ​ . Seeing a variety of weaving, one that included knots in the weavings.​ ​ . Going to a embroiderers small house, where her daughter brought a jug of water on her head to the house. This woman was a character and her house was a warm inviting setting. ​ ​ These are but a few of my memories but just want to say you have a good leader in Gautam and he is an asset to your organisation.​ ​ I'm looking forward to the February trip and want to thank all of you for all your hard work in organising memorable trips! ​ Read more
