This 8 day tour will first take to the major urban centres of Tibet: Lhasa, Gyantse and Shigatse. You'll visit the most important monasteries and temples and you'll immerse yourself in the ancient Tibetan culture. You'll drive along one of the most scenic and high highways in the world that will offer you the most stunning views of the Roof of the World! This tour will then take you to "heavenly" Namtso Lake, the highest saltwater lake in the world.
You're warmly welcome to Tibet: 'Tashi Delek'! Get picked up at the airport or the train station and driven to your hotel in Lhasa. Here you can rest to acclimatize to the high altitude for the rest of the day. In the evening you're invited to a Tibetan style dinner!
In the morning we'll visit the famous Potala Palace and explore its stunning chapels. Residence of the Dalai Lamas until the 1959 Tibetan uprising, it's now a museum and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its magnificence and architectural wonder will leave you breathless. In the afternoon we'll visit the spiritual heart of Tibet, Johkang Temple, and its surrounding kora, Barkhor. On the third day, we'll visit the two most important Gelugpa monasteries of Tibet, which to this day are renowned places of learning and training of scholars. If we're lucky, we may witness debating monks in the Sera Monastery. This is an old tradition that takes place in a garden near the assembly hall in the afternoon. Read more
On the fourth day of your tour, we'll drive from Lhasa to Shigatse. Along this beautiful road we'll pass through the green farmland of the Nyang Chu Valley, across the Gampala Pass (4790 m) to get to Yamdrok Lake and Karola Glacier. We will then continue westward to Gyantse, where we'll pay a visit to the local Kumbum. After the visit, we'll head to Shigatse, where we'll spend the night. Read more
Before driving back to Lhasa, we'll visit the famous Tashilhunpo Monastery, the largest monastery in Western Tibet and home to the Panchen Lama, the second most important spiritual leader of Tibet.
On the sixth day of the tour, we'll drive the scenic route to Namtso Lake, past Nagenla Mountain (5190 m) which is the perfect spot to admire the lake. Enjoy the unique beauty and peace with a stroll along the lakeside. In the evening we'll watch the breathtaking sunset and spend the night in a guesthouse or tent. Read more
The day begins with the fantastic sunrise over Namtso Lake. We'll then make our way back to Lhasa. We'll drive past Yangpachen Hot Springs; if interested, we can stop for a bath before heading back.
After breakfast, your tour guide and driver will drop you off at Lhasa airport or train station according to your travel plans. Your Tibet tour comes to an end today.
