Continue to the Central Region where you will visit the Elmina Castle on arrival. The Ft. St. Georges Castle is the oldest European building in Sub-Sahara Africa and one of the largest slave dungeons in the world built by the Portuguese in 1482. Overnight in Elmina.

Explore on foot the historic town of Elmina learning about the socio-economic life of the people in fishing, salt making, etc. Places of interest will include the traditional shrines, oldest church in Ghana, 18th century Dutch cemetery, old and new Elmina Township etc. The other places that will be visited include the Cape Coast Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site built by the British in 1665. You will also visit the Kakum National Park where you have the opportunity to hike up the only Canopy Walkway in Africa or opt to learn about the medicinal value of the trees on a trail. Depart Elmina for Kumasi visiting the Assin Manso Slave River en route. The Assin Manso Slave River site is where the enslaved Africans had their last bath in African waters before being kept at the various forts along the coast in wait for the Trans-Atlantic journey. Kumasi is Ghana’s second largest city and home of culture and tradition. Take a tour of the city to the Okomfo Anokye Sword site where this mysterious priest who conjured the golden stool embodying the soul of Ashanti from the sky drove this sword into the ground in 1697 predicting that no one could ever pull it out of its place. Other places of interest will include the Prempeh II Museum where you will find a replica and the fake golden stool presented to the British. You will continue to the Manhyia Palace which has served as the seat of the Ashanti monarchy since 1924 and the Military Museum. Visit the 65 hectare Aburi Botanical Gardens established in 1890 by the British colonialist and has a large variety of subtropical trees some of which were planted by some world leaders such as Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II in 1960. The trip will continue to Akosombo where you will visit the Akosombo damone of the largest man-made lakes in the world constructed in 1965. The dam supplies Ghana and some neigbouring countries with hydro-electric power.After the tour the group can relax by the Volta Lake with opportunity to engage in some water sporting activities such as fishing.Overnight in Akosombo.
