Breakfast. Departure to the Guatemalan Highlands. In the route we will visit Iximché, the old Maya Capital of the Cakchiquel Kingdom. We will continue to Lake Atitlán, that once Aldous Huxley said “it is one of the most beautiful lakes in the world”. Lodging: Villa Santa Catarina or similar.
Breakfast. In the morning: transfer to the village of Chichicastenango, where we will visit one of the most famous indigenous markets in all Latin America. That day, we will enjoy a living experience, where the travelers will have a corn workshop with local women. Corn is the most important staple food in Guatemala. Atitlán – Santiago – San Andres Xecul - Quetzaltenango Breakfast. In the morning we will take a boat to visit the Tzutuhil village of Santiago. After the excursion, we will continue to Quetzaltenango, visit of this colonial city that preserves the ancient traditions of its Mayan-Quiche lineage, conjugated with a colonial past and dynamic of modern life. Quetzaltenango - Almolonga - Zunil - Salcaja - Guatemala Breakfast. Today we will visit the market of Almolonga, known for its generous crops. Continue to Zunil, one of the pre-Columbian towns, recognized for its regional fabrics and fabrics. We will visit Salcajá, the first producer of marbled fabrics, used by women in their clothing. We will also know the Church of La Ermita la Conquistadora, which was the first Catholic church in Guatemala. After the excursions, return to Guatemala City. Breakfast. Departure to the Caribbean side of Guatemala. On our way, we will visit the archaeological center of Quiriguá, which has some of the best stelae that the Mayans raised. We will arrive to Izabal to mid-morning. Lodging: Hotel Villa Caribe or similar.
Breakfast. Morning boat ride through Río Dulce, a unique place of ecological and natural richness. Through the ride, we will go by boat to the touristic site of Cayo Quemado, to have a living experience. With the community members, we will enjoy a culinary workshop preparing a delicious winkle (also known as “burro”) or shrimp and coconut ceviche. After lunch, we will continue our boat tour and head to Río Dulce town, where our transportation is going to be waiting to continue our trip to Petén jungle. Lodging: Hotel Villa Maya or similar. Breakfast. We will spend this morning visiting Yaxhá, an archaeological site located on the shores of the Lagoon of the same name. Lunch and transfer to the airport to fly back to Guatemala City. Breakfast. In the morning we will go to the foot of the Pacaya Volcano, from there we will begin an ascent of little difficulty. After an hour of hiking, we will be in the plateau of the volcano from where we will be able to appreciate the crater of one of the three active volcanoes of Guatemala. Free afternoon.
