This 6 day tour starts from Huay Xai at Laos - Thai border bringing you along the mighty Mekong River to Pakbeng, Luang Prabang and Vientiane. Meet upon arrival at Houei Say immigration checkpoint and transfer to the pier. Board a traditional riverboat for a cruise down the Mekong River to Pakbeng (approx. 7 hours depending on the water level). The Mekong River has kept much of its untamed character with impressive rapids and lush jungles along its banks. En route, stop at some hill tribe villages such as the H’Mong village of Ban Houeilampene and the Thai Lu village of Ban Kouaytoune. Take a picnic lunch on board. Arrive in Pakbeng; a rustic town located on a steep hillside offering spectacular views of the Mekong River. Check-in to your hotel. Overnight in Pakbeng. Read more
After breakfast, continue your cruise along the Mekong River to the former Royal capital of Luang Prabang (approx. 6 hours depending on the water level). On the way, stop at Pak Ou, at the confluence of the Nam Ou and Mekong Rivers, to visit the sacred caves of Tham Ting and Tham Phoum, home to hundreds of Buddha statues. Today we will have a day tour for sightseeing of ancient town Luang Prabang. Visit Vat Xieng Thong, regarded as the most beautiful temple of Luang Prabang with low sweeping roofs, Vat Visoun Temple with its Singhalese-style stupa, That Makmo, and Vat Aham, one of the city’s major teaching shrines housing the puppets of the Lao ancestors. In the afternoon, visit the National Museum (formerly the Royal Palace) with its collection of personal artifacts of the Lao Royal Family. Continue to nearby Vat Mai Temple, which was the residence of a Buddhist patriarch before 1975, before climbing Phousi Hill to enjoy the sunset over the city and the Mekong River. Take an excursion by road to the picturesque Kuang Sy waterfalls nestled in lush tropical forest. On the way, visit some hill tribe villages such as the H’Mong village of Ban Thinkeo and the Khmu village of Ban Thapaene. I cannot recommend this company high enough. All we had to do was tell Ms Ngoan Le our travel consultant at the company the area and an idea of what we wanted to see and she did the rest, which included booking hotels, organising our tour and our own personal tour guide and driver . We ended up having a fantastic holiday of a lifetime. Our guide 'Vu' was so friendly and knowledgeable about everywhere we went. Our tour included an overnight stay at a Homestay which I was a little unsure about but Ms Ngoan assured me that I would enjoy it and that it would be a very good way to experience the home life of the Vietnamese. In the event it was a wonderful experience thanks to our guide 'Vu' and the family we stayed with. Ms Ngoan was right. We also took the tour of the Cu Chi tunnels, City tour of Saigon and the early morning tour which included seeing how the Vietnamese start their day doing Tai Chi, aerobics, badminton etc in the parks. We also visited the fresh food markets. All the tours were so interesting made especially so thanks to the detailed knowledge and friendly approach of 'Vu'. Thanks to Travel Authentic Asia our cruise of SE Asia was a pleasure! Our cruise ship offered tours at three times the price in some cases and had far less qualified guides. Travel Authentic was punctual, knowledgeable and friendly. The follow-up with Ngoan was thorough and efficient as well. Arriving in Hanoi, we were at the mercy of our tour guide, Sonny. His introduction, presentation and welcome was truly professional. Something about him gave us a very positive vibe that we were in for a good time. The tour was well paced and with a very knowledgeable and passionate tour guide, the trip was made a bit more memorable. Having private guides is definitely recommended. Travelling across Vietnam we had other tour guides and all were really good and pleasant to deal with. The guides took care of small details. Sense of humour, good command of English, accommodating changes on the run was really appreciated. All the hotels were of a good/high standards, the drivers made the trips safer and the best experience was the cyclo ride in Hanoi. The people were nice and the most memorable moment we recall: a local lady seeing my daughter stuck on the other side of the road went back across and guided my daughter safely weaving through the rushing traffic with such an ease in HCM city. What kindness from the people of Vietnam. Vietnam and Cambodia are great places to visit as they have lots of history, beauty and scenic places to see and having Travel Authentic Asia organise it all meant we could totally enjoy the trip without having to worry about hotels, transports and most meals. Definitely recommend them to anyone contemplating visiting Vietnam/Cambodia. Read more
