Cheetahs Run - 9 Nights - Ultra Luxury

A Luxury Lodge Safari that fly's from Maun to Zarafa, Mombo and Jack's camps before ending back at Maun

Arrival - Fly from Maun to Zarafa

The camp was originally called Zibadianja when it opened in 2008, but its beautiful design, “green” construction and amazing position overlooking the lagoon quickly made it the beloved of all who laid eyes on it. So it became Zarafa, in name and in spirit. Just four magnificent tented villas and a spectacular main area, all raised on decking to take advantage of views over the lagoon, reflect the desire for exclusivity and privacy which inspired Zarafa’s design. Construction took eco-friendly principles to new levels of excellence and focussed on recycling, with repurposed teak railroad sleepers for flooring and furniture made from mahogany washed up in the 2005 tsunami, commissioned in an effort to give Indonesians affected by the disaster much-needed work. The result is a safari camp like no other, and one that you will quickly fall in love with and want to return to, time and again. Read more

Built under large, shady trees, Mombo’s nine spacious en-suite tents are raised two metres from the ground providing excellent views, with a long veranda, a sala and indoor and outdoor showers. The camp's main living, bar and dining areas are under thatch, while the boma adds traditional flavour to delicious dinners under the stars. Fly from Mombo to Jack's

While on a trapping expedition in the Makgadikgadi Pans during the 60's, Jack Bousfield stumbled upon a site that so captured his imagination, he set up camp under an acacia with the unshakeable expectation that others would feel the same. Ten green roomy and stylish canvas tents with en-suite bathrooms and indoor and outdoor showers (for those who want to feel the Kalahari breeze on their skin) have been fashioned in classical style and are set into a palm grove creating an oasis of civilisation in what can be the harshest of stark environment. The guides at Jack's Camp are an erudite breed. Often graduate students who combine research with guiding, they team up with a small group of Zu/’hoasi Bushmen to guide our Guests on a morning’s walks and game drives. The response from those who have been there is always the same: first your question is echoed, 'Jack's Camp?' followed by a reflective pause/ 'It's different." Read more

During the wet season the landscape transforms. Clouds of flamingo and other migratory birds descend from the heavens to decorate the watery grasslands. Herds of zebra and wildebeest materialise, drawn by the lush grass, and for several months, the desert is teeming with game and predators. The guides at Jack's Camp are an erudite breed. Often graduate students who combine research with guiding, they team up with a small group of Zu/’hoasi Bushmen to guide our Guests on a morning’s walks and game drives. The response from those who have been there is always the same: first your question is echoed, 'Jack's Camp?' followed by a reflective pause/ 'It's different.' And there they leave it, the difficulty of describing it hanging in the air like a half-built bridge.' Read more

Safari - Jacks Camp

Venturing far into the centre of the Makgadikgadi, on 4wd quad bikes, we are able to explore remote archaeological sites, periodically discovering never before documented fossil beds of extinct giant zebra and hippo. The fact that you can travel across the pans at great speed and still arrive nowhere only underlines the pans immensity. There is nothing out here. Absolutely nothing. A safari to Jack's Camp is also a complete desert experience focusing on species unique to the area such as aardvark, gemsbuck and springbuck. It is the only place where guests are virtually guaranteed to see the rare and elusive brown hyaena and be able to walk through the Kalahari with a gang of habituated but, wild meerkats! Read more

I have traveled many places and spent several years in Africa. It is a place that draws me back time and time again. Jamie's experience and planning we were able to watch the African sun set with a leopard, sit and watch painted dogs and their pups hunting and playing and an elephant swim across the Chobe River. Our meals, accommodation and transport were all enjoyable and exceeded our expectations. Jamie's knowledge of the African bush and wildlife is incredible and has us returning for another safari in 2015! He is a pleasure to deal with and very informative and supportive during the planning and booking stage as well. I highly recommend Jamie Thom Conservation Safaris to anyone intending to travel to Africa and I have done so personally to all my friends! Read more

It was great to stay at 2 different lodges at Kwandwe and being ushered off to our first game drive before checking into our lodges was more than welcome. Despite the unexpectedly cooler weather, the wildlife at the reserve was remarkable. The transfer from Zambia to the Elephant Camp was seamless and in addition to the beautiful Vic Falls, the morning walk with Sylvester, the cheetah, was truly amazing. Botswana definitely provided much warmer weather and the wildlife there was very special. We thoroughly enjoyed the mokoro and seeing the diverse bird life, leopards as well as a pride of 10 lions together were just some of the additional highlights while there Read more

It's hard for me to settle back into my life at home after such an exhilarating trip through East Africa! Our group was ideal size of 8 and a mixture of well experienced Africa travelers and first timers. The pre-departure information was so good the newbies were just as prepared as the others. Everything ran like clockwork, the camp staff and drivers were fantastic, catering to all our needs with a smile, and their own personal experience and knowledge was clearly extensive. The vehicles were well equipped with charging facilities, fridges and they were water tight (a consideration if you are traveling in rainy seasons...). The timing of the trip was perfect as the game viewing far out stripped our expectations. Jamie's experience as a tour operator and as a professional photographer made this trip a safari of a life time for me. Read more
