Excursion to Koh Dach who is known as the Silk Island in the middle of the Mekong River, countryside of Phnom Penh. Local ferry to reach Koh Trong surrounded by beaches of fine sand. Boat trip on the Tonlé Sap to see the floating village.

DAY 1

PHNOM PENH ARRIVAL

Arrive at Phnom Penh airport, welcome by our English Speaking Guide and transfer to check in at hotel. (Note: The official check-in time is 14h00). Begin your tour of this charming capital with a visit the Royal Palace which was built in 1866 by King Norodom. Visit the Silver Pagoda, so named because of its floor comprised of 5,000 silver tiles. Continue to the nearby National Museum. Dinner on your own account. Accommodation at hotel. Read more

DAY 2

PHNOM PENH - KOH DACH

Breakfast at hotel. Departure for a visit to the city's namesake, Wat Phnom, founded in 1373, the pagoda was built to house Buddhist relics washed ashore by the river. Then a short tour at old French colonial quarter: the Post office, the National library (closed every weekend) and the railway station. End of morning tour with a visit of Russian Market (known as Psar Toul Toum Poung). Lunch on own account. Afternoon, depart for an excursion to Koh Dach, known as the Silk Island, an island in the middle of the Mekong River, north of the city of Phnom Penh. Embarked and crossed the Mekong on the local ferry. Arrive on another bank and discover the famous island Koh Dach. It is a very picturesque day. It is a panoramic road along the Mekong River with many fishing villages. You will admire the charm of the villages and the beautiful view of the river. The walk will lead you to discover different cultures (depending on the season) such as fields of arum, ginger or rice fields. The whole is rocked by the regular sound of looms, present in all the traditional houses on stilts. Dinner and overnight at a home stay (simple comfort: bed + blanket + mosquito net + fan, WC, cold shower). Option: Possible in the morning to visit of Tuol Sleng Museum, the complex used a secondary school until in 1975. Then the complex was occupied by the Khmer Rouge and used as a prison. The prison, known as S-21 eventually became the place where most of the prisoners have been tortured and murdered. A total of 17,000 people were imprisoned here. The entrance fee is cost 5 USD per person. Read more

DAY 3

KOH DACH - KRATIE

After breakfast, return to the pier and continue the road in the direction of Kratie (340 Km). This pleasant journey, accompanied by a few stops, allows many meetings with the Khmer population, very welcoming. We do not miss the small break of Skun, famous for its sellers of grilled spiders. Superb landscapes, rice fields as far as the eye can see dotted with palm trees. We continue to Kampong Cham and visit a rubber plantation and rubber plant in Chup. Arrival in Kratie and visit the Roka Kandal pagoda, a 19th century pagoda unique in its wooden structure before embarking on the local ferry to reach Koh Trong (Koh = island), located in the middle of the Mekong surrounded by beaches Of fine sand during the dry season, it is another Cambodia away from modernism. DAY 4

KRATIE

After breakfast, free time for the discovery of the rural life and orchards of Koh Trong, by bike or walk according to your preference on a shaded trail. This long island about 7km and 1.5km wide is a haven of peace. Time to discover a varied panel of what the charming little island has to offer: Vietnamese floating village, vegetable gardens, oxen working in the rice fields, khmers pagodas, fish farming, traditional Khmer houses on stilts, orchards ... Best grapefruits of Cambodia so it is possible to taste the fruits of the season. In the afternoon, go for a boat trip on the Mekong in which it is still possible to see some freshwater dolphins. Then visit the Mekong Tortoise Conservation Center, home to one of the rarest freshwater species: the Cantor tortoise. Return to town and en route through the village of Tmor Krè to taste the KROLANN (glutinous rice cake mixed with peanut and coconut milk, all enclosed in bamboo tubes). DAY 5

KRATIE - KAMPONG THOM - PREA

After breakfast, board on the local ferry and follow the road to Kampong Thom. On the way, stop in Chlong, a small village with both Khmer and colonial architecture. Continue the road until the ruined temples in Sombor Prei Kuk which used to be the ancient capital of the Khmer in the pre-angkorian period between 6th and 7th century. Then drive to visit of Grand Preah Khan Kompong Svay, in the center of Cambodia, which includes a good number of temples as well as a city that has lived several centuries. DAY 6

PREAH KHAN KAMPONG SVAY - SI

After breakfast, departure for the discovery of Koh Ker and its royal temple. It is a pyramid covered with seven-level sandstone, rising above the plain and surrounding forests. Then continue on to Siem Reap. En route, visit the Beng Mealea complex which has kept the stigma of its long insertion into the jungle. Meals on your own account. Accommodation at hotel. Read more

SIEM REAP

Breakfast at hotel. You will head out for a wonderful guided exploration of the Angkor sites by remork (tuk tuk). First, you'll head to the ancient city of Angkor Thom by entering from the ancient South Gate, an impressive stone edifice carved with elephants and giant faces, and then continue to the remarkable Bayon Temple in the exact center of the city. The Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King are two fascinating highlights of this area, and you will explore the grounds of the former Royal Palace to discover some small hidden temples that are rarely visited by tourists. Visit of the grand centerpiece, Angkor Wat, in the late afternoon – when the temple is somewhat less busy and the evening sun provides a beautiful and photogenic glow. Meals on your own account. SIEM REAP

Breakfast at hotel. Next morning, you will travel to see the pretty temple of Banteay Srei called “Citadel of the Women”. It displays some of the finest examples of classical Khmer art as this small temple is noted for its truly remarkable fine bas-reliefs. Banteay Srei is unique in that it is constructed of pink sandstone, which is seen nowhere else in Angkor. Later there is the possibility to stop at local communities along the way and the guide will help to interact with the local community to learn about the way of life here. The visit offers the opportunity to taste Palm Wine and Palm Sugar (seasonal) and other popular local products. End of your morning tour with the famous Ta Prohm, the atmospheric jungle-clad temple. You'll take a break at your hotel until midday before heading out again for further exploration under your own steam with the other temples recommended by your guide. Meal on your own account. SIEM REAP

Breakfast at hotel. Depart with your guide and take road until Kampong Kleang village. Take a boat trip on Tonlé Sap to see the floating village. Kampong Khleang is a fantastic site for a visit at any time of the year; however, it depends on the lake levels which vary from year to year. This floating community is known as the largest as houses here are raised up to 10 meters. Lunch on your own account. Afternoon visit the temples of Roluos group. Roluos is of great importance: its buildings testify to the beginnings of Khmer architecture and sculpture. The three main temples, Preah Ko, Bakong and Loei, are approximately 1 km apart. Before returning to the city, take a tour of the Roluos Pagoda. Dinner accompanied by a traditional dance show at the local restaurant. Accommodation at hotel. Read more

SIEM REAP - DEPARTURE

Breakfast at the hotel. Morning, departure for the last visit to the Inkosei Pagoda, built on the ruins of an ancient temple and Bo pagoda with its well preserved paintings. It is optional, a small ceremony of blessing made by the Buddhist monks for the happiness, prosperity and protection of your journey. Lunch on your own account. Afternoon, if time permit, visit of Artisans d’Angkor and the factory "Senteurs d'Angkor" We discover the manufacture of candles, soaps and other creams, as well as the treatment of spices such as pepper, pepper, curry etc. Transfer to the airport for the departure flight to other destination.... Les plus : Le voyage c'est aussi ceux qui vous permettent de comprendre le pays et les gens avec lesquels vous êtes. De ce point de vue notre guide et notre chauffeur ont été parfaits. Nous avons aimé les grandes 'balades' dans la nature, les rencontres avec les habitants dans les villages, les superbes paysages. La ville de Sapa, comme hors du temps, entre Annecy et Shangri Là. La balade sur le lac Thac Ba a été un vrai bonheur. Fruit d'un barrage hydraulique, le lac est d'une grande beauté avec ses ilots plantés et ses pêcheurs. Dépêchez vous d'y aller avant qu'il ne devienne aussi fréquenté d'Halong ! La baie d'Halong terrestre est également un beau souvenir, plus calme que la baie maritime et très impressionnante aussi. Villages sympa. Les moins : Les distances ne sont pas très grandes dans le nord, mais le temps pour les parcourir est très grand : 5 heures pour 130 km ! Des routes très difficiles et pas mal de fatigue. Heureusement voiture climatisée ;-) La baie d'Halong restera un souvenir un peu mitigé : que des bateaux touristiques, aucune jonque et peu de pêcheurs. Heureusement nous avons eu un très beau temps et un beau coucher (et lever) de soleil. La navigation au petit matin est plus belle que celle du soir. Elle est moins encombrée. Nous avions emmené des petits cadeaux pour les populations rencontrées mais nous ne nous sommes pas sentis heureux de distribuer ainsi. Nous ne sommes pas certains que cela soit agréable pour les gens. Commentaire : 15 jours au départ d'Hanoi vers les montagnes et Sapa et retour par la baie d'Halong maritime puis la terrestre. Nous avons aimé les grandes 'balades' dans la nature, les rencontres avec les habitants dans les villages, les superbes paysages. Nous avons eu la chance de participer à une fête dans un village. Nous avons dansé autour du feu et sauté en rythme au dessus des bambous. C'était gai et bon enfant. La balade sur le lac Thac Ba a été un vrai bonheur. Fruit d'un barrage hydraulique, le lac est d'une grande beauté avec ses ilots plantés et ses pêcheurs. Dépêchez vous d'y aller avant qu'il ne devienne aussi fréquenté d'Halong ! Les plus : Ce que nous avons le plus aimé sont les paysages magnifiques et variés, la gentillesses des habitants, Les moins : Le moins serait peut-être la chaleur et la sur-fréquentation de la baie d'Halong. Commentaire : Pour nous il s'est agi d'un dépaysement total et s'est ce que nous en attendions. Nous avons été conquis par ce pays où les paysages sont grandioses, les habitants d'une gentillesse naturelle. Même si la vie est complètement différente de ce que l'on connaît en France, on s'y sent tout de suite très bien et sans aucun sentiment d'insécurité, bien au contraire. Quant à l'organisation, tout a été parfait et le programme établi a été respecté à la lettre, il faut dire que notre interlocuteur sur place, Quynh Anh, est extraordinaire, d'ailleurs nous avons souhaité la rencontrer en personne pour la remercier.
