Enjoy the beauty and hidden gems of Siem Reap and Battambang on our 6 day tour! Led by our local student guides, this tour takes you off the beaten track to areas hardly frequented by tourists. Experience the “real” face of Cambodia, and get to know the lives and livelihoods of locals living in the city and villages of Siem Reap and Battambang!
Your guide will give you a brief introduction about the tour itinerary and then take you to your hotel enjoying your fresh night!
Morning, your tuk-tuk driver will take you to our Butterfly Tours’ office, the starting point of your tour! From here, we will embark on a relaxing ride around the Siem Reap countryside, taking in views and observing locals engaged in their everyday activities of basket weaving and farming. Chat to friendly locals and take part in a Khmer cooking class—just in time for lunch! In the afternoon, after a brief rest, we will begin the second part of our tour with a tuk-tuk ride towards the floating villages built on the Tonle Sap River. Here, you will take a boat ride with your guides, who will tell you more about the local community. Learn about the floating villages and the nearby fish farm—an economic activity that continues to sustain many local families. Complimented by a beautiful sunset, the Tonle Sap is also an excellent spot for bird watching, so be sure to get your cameras ready! At dusk, you have the option of joining us for sunset dinner at in the middle of the lake. Read more
Rise and shine! We will start early—4AM—so as to enable you to catch the sunrise at the ancient temple of Angkor Wat. Believe us, the early start is worth it! As the sun rises over Angkor’s five magnificent lotus-bud towers, your temple guide will tell you more about the significance of Angkor and the religious iconography found around the complex. Later, we will cycle to a nearby village to enjoy a local breakfast and much needed Khmer coffee! Bright and alert now, we will then cycle to Angkor Thom and share a picnic lunch before heading off to the Jungle Temple, Ta Prohm. Later in the afternoon, you will have two options for the afternoon; for the more adventurous, you could opt to go quad biking, or you could choose to take a scenic 40 minute bike ride to the beautiful Bak Kheng Hill—the choice is yours! To begin our fourth day, we will all meet at Butterfly Tours’ office by 7:00am. Your local guide will then give you a short introduction about our route, which is divided into three parts. Part 1: Siem Reap – Krolanh (60KM, L) First up, we will bike to Krolanh District, where we will stop to enjoy a local lunch. Part 2: Krolanh – Banteay Meanchey (40KM) After our delicious lunch, we will continue riding for approximately 40KM to the border province of Battambang—Banteay Meanchey. Here, your guides will highlight historical sites which locals continue to frequent, including a place known as “the big swimming pool”—a large dam left from Pol Pot’s 1975-1979 regime originally meant to be used as an irrigation system under a 5-year agricultural plan. Part 3: Banteay Meanchey – Battambang by Van (60KM, D) By now, we would have been riding for at least 100KM—it’s now time for a break! A van will transport all of us to Battambang, where we will assist you with your hotel check-in. For dinner, do let your guides know what you would like to eat, and we will arrange it accordingly. On Day 5, we will embark on a full-day bicycle tour to Battambang’s countryside. Get to know the lives and livelihoods of local villagers, and be rewarded with a ride on the norry, Battambang’s famous bamboo train! In the evening, we will enjoy a local picnic, taking in the sunset as our day comes to an end of charming day 5! Read more
On our final morning, we will pick you up from your hotel by 7AM (please ensure you have breakfast beforehand!). We will then be taking a 7-hour boat ride back to Siem Reap, where you will be able to experience and view unique Cambodian landscapes. We should arrive in Siem Reap by the afternoon, where—sadly—our fun-filled 6 days tour will have to come to an end! Read more
The enquirers I had and done over fb messaging were answered promptly, well assured and patiently. Borith is helpful, friendly and totally hilarious. My Ma hadn't ridden on a bicycle for long distance for 4 decades so we emphasized that her safety would be a priority, especially when we had to share the foreign roads with tuktuks, vans, cars, bikes and coaches. And our bicycle guide, Sopheap, took that seriously, watching out for her and taking good care while leading our pack of 3. Even the temple guide, Sopheak, ended up riding next to Ma like a bodyguard in traffic. We rode through beautiful forest, sheltered from the sun. We toured the major temples listening to Sopheak. We visited rural villages and gave out little gift packs we brought... We were slow and caused some delay in competing the itinerary. But our guides remained very patient with us. I chose the half day countryside tour outside Siem Reap and absolutely loved it! I was picked up from my hostel by a friendly motor driver who chatted the whole way, and was then introduced to the staff and talked through what to expect from the tour. I then realized I was the only person signed up so I got a private tour. My guide was extremely professional, friendly and helpful, checking in to make sure I was managing with the bike, teaching me some Kmer to communicate with the people we met and even providing hand sanitize before we ate. Included in the price is pick up and drop off, the guide, bike and helmet, a snack at a market, bottled water, seeing basket weaving, rice wine production and even trying some wine. And a much welcomed cold glass of water and cold towel on return to the office to wipe off the dust and sweat. At every stop my guide gave the families a small package of money from the price I had paid, and it was great to see it going directly to them. If you want a glimpse of the daily live of many Khmer, we would definitely recommend the off the beaten track tour.
