CYCLE SAIGON TO ANGKOR WAT

2 countries in 11 days! This great cycling adventure, from the mighty Mekong to the mesmerizing temples of Angkor Wat will simply blow you away. It’s an action packed trip that covers a lot of ground, including Southern Vietnam’s scenic pathways, friendly candid visits with Cham people and Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage.

SAIGON ARRIVAL

Arrive at Tan Son Nhat airport. Meet with our guide and transfer to your hotel. Depending on the time of your flight, we can take in an afternoon tour of Saigon. In the afternoon take a tour of the city centre. Your guide will be happy to personalise your programme, however we would recommend sites such as the Reunification Palace where the South finally fell to North Vietnamese troops in 1975; Notre Dame Cathedral; the Old Saigon Post Office; Thien Hau Pagoda in the city’s bustling Chinatown and the War Crimes Museum, highlighting the suffering of the Vietnamese people during recent conflicts – you won’t be too surprised to find it’s not exactly a politically balanced exhibition. The remainder your day is at leisure. It’s a great city to explore at night, lots of bars and great restaurants...you’ll be spoilt for choice! Meal: None Read more

Saigon

SAIGON - CAI BE by bicycle

Following breakfast, we transfer out of Saigon to avoid the heavy traffic. Visit Cu Chi tunnel, home to 5,000 VC troops during the Vietnam/U.S. War. Today the remaining tunnels have become a major tourist attraction giving the visitor a unique experience and a feeling of what underground life in the American/Vietnam war must have been like. We can squeeze underground for an insight into life as a tunnel dwelling resistance fighter as we negotiate a very short stretch of the system, remember that people lived here for months on end. We discover the various mantraps and the remains of an American tank as well as numerous bomb craters made by 500 pound bombs dropped by B52 bombers. After the visit, we start our cycle ride on a great tarmac road to Trang Bang, from there we go cross country by bike or bus towards Hau Nghia and Duc Hoa. Upon arrival, we transfer to a village on a small island in the middle of the river, where we spend the night in a local home. The home stay will be an unforgettable experience and can give you a unique insight into the culture of the locals. Cycled distance: 35-40km Difficulty: Moderate Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Read more

Mekong Delta

VINH LONG - CAN THO

Enjoy a leisurely cycle from the homestay to visit a local rice paper factory, candy workshop and orchards. Head to cycling to Vinh Long city, we ride on the tarmac road to Long Ho then branch off and cycle through quieter countryside roads alongside rice paddies, coconut trees and orchards. Stop along the way for a short break and interact with hospitable locals. Lunch is served in a local restaurant. Our ride ends at Binh Minh where board the support vehicle and transfer to Can Tho. Overnight in Can Tho. Cycled distance: Approx. 60 km Difficulty: Moderate Meals: Breakfast, Lunch Read more

Can Tho

CAN THO - HA TIEN

This morning, rise early and get a unique taste of life in the Mekong. Board a local boat and explore the colorful Cai Rang floating market, where many boats laden with fruits, vegetables and fish jostle for trade. Sellers advertise their wares by crying out across the waters or tie their goods to a tall pole attached to their boat so that buyers can see from a distance what is being sold. This memorable experience makes for many excellent photo opportunities. Relax and enjoy the cruise back to the hotel where we will freshen up before we check-out and ride to Rach Gia. Lunch will be enjoyed at a local restaurant along the way. Continue the ride on narrow lanes to explore the hidden backwaters of the delta and along canal banks until you reach Rach Gia a laid back fishing village, which faces the Gulf of Thailand. The main part of town is on an island connected by road. This area is a stronghold of the Cao Dai faith. Our ride finishes in Rach Gia where we transfer for a couple of hours to Ha Tien for the night. Cycled distance: Approx. 60 km Difficulty: Easy/Moderate Meals: Breakfast, Lunch Read more

We then enjoy a gentle ride passing through stunning rural areas introducing you to Cambodia. Tonight’s destination is the tranquil seaside town of Kep. SIEM REAP - ANGKOR TEMPLES

After breakfast, take a shuttle bus to the rose sandstone temple of Banteay Srei, then explore the temple’s magnificent carvings, we then embark on the 31km Grand Circuit to the famous ruined, jungle temple of Ta Phrom. Ta Phrom is one of Angkor’s jewels and is overgrown with fig trees, giving a haunting yet exotic atmosphere. The magnificent roots of the trees have merged over the centuries with the temple’s huge stone blocks, emphasizing a ‘forgotten city’ feeling. The temple was built by King Jayavarman VII to commemorate his mother. Take your time to walk through the temple. Break for lunch nearby Sra Srong, the old Royal baths of the king. Continue to the East gate of Angkor Thom the ancient royal city of Khmer Empire with its centerpiece; the Bayon temple. As you approach, you will notice the enigmatic faces of former King Jayavarman VII facing in every direction. Your guide will take you to the Terrace of the Elephants, which served as a platform from where the King could welcome back his victorious army and the Terrace of the Leper King, which holds detailed carvings winding along a narrow passage way that leads to the Baphuon complex. If time permits, continue to visit other temples in the area. Cycle back to Siem Reap via picturesque country lanes for a well-deserved dip in the pool. Overnight in Siem Reap. Cycled distance: Approx. 52km Difficulty: Easy/Moderate Meals: Breakfast, Lunch Read more

Went on a day cycle trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels, opting for something different rather than the run-of-the-mill coach tours from central Saigon. This tour left the city in a premium van and stopped on the outskirts of the city in a lovely village setting, and we rode all the way to the tunnels, stopping at various scenic points along the way. A fab lunch was served for us after visiting the tunnels too. Awesome operator and a great day out! Recommended! Read more

When I booked this I couldn't find much on the internet about Indotrek. However, their service was so fantastic during the inquiry/booking process that I went for it anyway. We were a group of 4, different level of cycling skills. The whole trip was excellent. From the start, Kim and Richard in the office gave us a wonderful service. Emails were replied to quickly and spot on. All the pre-travel arrangements were excellent. On arrival, we were met by our guide, Thang, who stayed with us up to Hue. Our driver was excellent. Both friendly and knowledgeable. We could cycle as much or little as we wanted each day which was great for our different skill levels. Hotels, on the whole, were better than we expected. From Hue we flew to Hanoi and finished the trip with an overnight on a boat in Ha Long Bay - that is a must do! Overall, brilliant service, brilliant value for money. Read more

Just back from a trip organised by Indotrek. We cycled South to North Vietnam. From start to finish Indotrek provided an excellent service. Prompt reply to emails, good information. The guides and drivers were great - the guides spoke good English. We had some wonderful days cycling off the beaten track. Just what we wanted. We were not interested in just main roads and high mileage. The trip they organized for us was perfect - we did what we wanted and saw some lovely villages and had great interaction with local people. Hotels were on the whole better than we expected. Value for money was excellent. Definitely, would recommend this company. Read more
