Myanmar Culture and Heritage

The program includes the main destinations (Mandalay-Bagan-Inle-Yangon) and Monywa. * Monywa - is an important wholesale center for agricultural products. The main visit is to the fascinating caves of Po Win Taung, an extensive complex of mysterious caves built between the s. XIV and XVIII. They contain Buddhist paintings and sculptures of great value. This program is possible for throughout the year.


You will be met at the airport by our representative, who will help you to transfer to your hotel. We will continue, very close, to Amarapura, one of the ancient capitals of the Burmese Empire, founded during the Konbaung dynasty, was twice the capital (1783-1821 and 1842-1859). Today only a few ruins remain of this capital, being the main attraction of the place the famous U Bein bridge and enjoy nice walking along the famous Bridge, which is more than two-hundred years old and the longest in the world built in teak wood. Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before we travel to Monywa, which is situated on the eastern bank of the Chindwin River. The town is a lively trading area for the trading of agricultural produce in the area and is home to a thriving market. We will also visit the striking Thanbuddhat Pagoda, Pho Win Taung and Shwe Ba Taung. Read more

We will take breakfast at the hotel before driving to Pakkoku, a charming town famous as a tobacco trading centre and for its weaving shops. We will then travel towards Yazagou where we see the wooden Pakhangyi Monastery, which was built in 1886. We will then drive to Pakkoku Jetty for a boat journey along the Irrawaddy River to Bagan. You will be transferred to your hotel upon arrival. Read more

We will enjoy a Bagan Archaeological Tour which takes in famous sites including Damayarzaka Pagoda, Shwegugyi and Thabyinnyu. Other highlights include the mural paintings at Gubyukggyi and Abeyadana Temple, which is famed for its mural paintings about Mahayana Buddhism. In the afternoon we visit a lacquer ware shop to learn about this unique art, which Bagan is famous for, is carried out before enjoying Bagan’s famous sunset from atop one of the temples. Read more

Head south east by minibus for a half-day trip to Mount Popa, where you will have the chance to ascend the 777 steps to the famous Popa Taunkalat Monastery. Located perilously on top of a volcanic plug on the slopes of the mountain and offers panoramic views of the region, the monastery is said to be home to 37 nats (ancient Burmese spirits that pre-date Buddhism, which are represented by statues at the base). On the way we will visit to Sinn Luu Village. Return to Bagan, stopping on the way to see the process of making htan ye (palm toddy), a mildly alcoholic drink fermented from the sap of the same palm trees used to make sugar. Read more

In the morning, we will transfer to airport for your flight to Heho. We then begin a sightseeing tour on a long-tail boat on Inle Lake, visiting silk weaving and lotus industries in Innpawkhone Village before stopping in Nanpan to witness work at a Cheroot (Myanmar Cigar) factory. We continue our tour to see the Phaungdaw Oo Pagoda and, if we have time, stop at Leshae Village to witness the making of a Buddha image through the use of dried flour powder. Read more

Get off the beaten track and travel southward on the lake to visit the villages at Sagar and Thakong. This relaxing three-hour journey will give you an insight into a lesser-visited part of the lake and allow you to interact a little more with the local people who call the lake their home. We will also visit pottery industries at the Shan village of Kyauktaung. Read more

Overnight in Inle/Nyaungshwe


After breakfast at hotel, we will transfer to Airport for your flight to Yangon. One you are refreshed we will take a sightseeing tour of some of Yangon’s highlights, including the Reclining Buddha at Chauk Htat Gyi, still a popular place for Buddhist worshippers, and the National Museum, home too many interesting artefacts from Myanmar’s past. We will then visit the bustling Chinatown area in Yangon’s downtown before you have the chance to browse for Myanmar crafts at the Bogyoke Aung San Market. Our day ends with a visit to the Shwedagon Pagoda, the most important religious structure in Myanmar and a point of pilgrimage for Buddhists across the globe. Read more
