The Full day chimpanzee Experience is a unique opportunity that will allow you to follow a chimpanzee group in its daily activities. Accompanying Kibale reserve researchers and rangers, you will be on the forest floor early in the morning to watch the chimps wake-up (de-nesting) and search for their breakfast. Then you will follow them all day - observing the full gamut of their behavior - until they build new nests (nesting) for themselves at around 6.30pm. You will be part of the Uganda Wildlife Authority initiative to habituate chimps to the human presence without changing their natural environment. This is one of the great moments of your safari! Second night at your Lodge near the park headquarters. Kibale Forest NP offers the greatest variety and concentration of primates in East Africa including about 500 chimpanzees! Drive to Queen Elisabeth NP along the foothills of the Rwenzoris. The game seen will depend on the season, the Mweya peninsula is good for a variety of animals including elephants; in the Kasenyi plains you will find mostly lion and Uganda cob. Have lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon take a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel which many consider as a highlight of the safari. After the launch trip your driver guide will take you for a late afternoon game drive! The Kazinga channel is a natural channel of 36 km long between Lake George and Lake Edward. The launch trip is the most popular activity at Mweya. From the safe boat you can see elephants, hippo, Nile crocodile and many water birds. Today we have 2 options for reaching Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, depending on the weather conditions. When dry, we take the road direction south toward Ishasha, home of the tree climbing lion. Near to the Congolese border, we begin to climb eastwards out of the rift and follow the rough track leading to Buhoma, at the edge of the forest. If the weather conditions are not so mild, we take the mountain track through cultivated expanses in the Rukungiri region to reach Bwindi Forest. Bwindi Forest has now 4 sites where you can trek the gorillas. (Buhoma, Ruhijja, Rushaga and Nkuringo). All different locations organized independently and located several hours away. Depending on the availability of the gorilla permits we will take you to Buhoma or Ruhija ,Rushaga or Nkuringo sector. As the first light of dawn breaks through the curtain of mist clinging to the summits of the evergreen hills, we make our way into the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Tracking the gorillas through the unique vegetation can take several hours of challenging walking in wet and muddy conditions. To see a gorilla, the trek will have been worth the hardship. Hikers will love it, with the gorilla excursion as a high point of your safari! Meeting the Mountain Gorillas (gorilla gorilla beringei) is a lifetime experience that you will never forget! After breakfast, we depart for Lake Mburo via Kabale. We stop at Kabale and lake Bunyonyi. The arrival at Lake Mburo national park is foreseen in the afternoon just on time to have game drive before drive to the hotel. For bird lovers this will be the best place to see the African fin foot in Uganda! At Lake Mburo national park you will find here some animals that you have not seen in other parks like Impala, zebra and African Eland. This makes the Park very interesting to be visited. EXCELLENT ! I contacted Mapendano a few months before the departure. They organised everything and all was perfect in the communication (answers to my questions were quick and complete). During the trip, I visited twice the gorillas and both experiences were different and complementary. The hotels were excellent, so was the food. Samuel, guide / driver, couldn't possibly have been nicer or more helpful - he felt like an old friend by the end of the first week. He was perfect during the safari drives in the animals parks. We only got little problems with the car (2 flat tires and another problem with the transmission), it was just part of the trip and the lost of time was minimal.
