You will join this group tour at a central meeting point in Edinburgh’s Old Town and have a chance to meet your fellow travellers as you make your way out of the city. This wide-ranging tour starts by heading west through the beautiful scenery of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park to Kilmartin Glen. Here you’ll explore Scotland’s ancient past. With over 5,000 years of history laid out before you, you’ll be able to walk in the footsteps of the first Scots at Dunadd Hill Fort and the Temple Wood Stone Circle. A day of high hills and history! The second day takes you to the haunting landscape of Glen Coe, which was the scene of the terrible massacre of the MacDonald Clan. You’ll continue on past Ben Nevis, Britain’s tallest peak and stop at Fort William. From Fort William you will join the Jacobite Steam Train, also known as the Hogwarts Express. You will journey through some magnificent scenery as the train takes you out the Scotland’s west coast. You will leave the train in the pretty port of Mallaig, where you will join the ferry to sail over the sea to Skye. Read more
You'll have the whole of the third day to explore Skye's mysteries and landscape. Here the mountains and beaches beckon, so lose yourself in the spectacular scenery of the Cuillin Mountains, the slanting hills of Quiraing, and the incredible Trotternish Peninsula.
You'll leave the Isle of Skye behind and travel over the Skye Bridge. Your first stop will be at Eilean Donan Castle for some fantastic views, or choose to explore inside the castle (optional extra). Then it's onwards through Glen Shiel to Loch Ness, in search of the Loch Ness Monster! You could opt to visit Urquhart Castle & take a cruise on the loch (optional extra) or enjoy a quaint village close to Loch Ness. Your day will end in the 'Capital of the Highlands': Inverness. Step back in time as you start the day at Culloden Battlefield, the site of the defeat of the Jacobite forces (entrance to the Visitors Centre is an optional extra.) Your next stop will be Clava Cairns, ancient standing stones tucked away in a beautiful woodland setting.
