Near the border, the Pocinho Train Station is the last stop of the centenary Douro Line, considered the most beautiful railway of the country. Travelling by train is always an unhurried whole pleasure, an invitation to contemplate. Behind us, the still green vines with the grapes starting to bloom and
nature bidding farewell to a harsh winter.
We arrive at Douro International where we will show you that the Douro is not only about wines. We will travel the road that crosses the mountains covered in blossoming almond trees, up to Torre de Moncorvo. It's a unique, memorable, purifying experience. Later, there will be time to not only taste the region's famous sugar glazed almonds, but also to learn how to make them and listen to their story, told by those who know all their secrets.
Beside is Vila Nova de Foz Côa, which became world famous for the findings of the rock carvings, in the Côa River valley - one of the largest archaeological prehistoric art centers in Europe. We suggest to visit the rock carvings at night, as then we have the ideal light to appreciate the beauty of this Palaeolithic art, classified as World Human Heritage.
Still time to travel through time in the historical village of Castelo Rodrigo. Located on the top of a hill with premium views over the Côa Valley, this medieval village hides amazing treasures amongst ruins and walls from other ages.
