Departure from Santa Cruz to Samaipata (120 km – 3 hours), a trip with a view of great sub-Andean beauty, where you will visit Samaipata Ruins, the largest example of pre-hispanic rock architecture in South America, declared a Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO. Departure from Sucre to Tarabuco (2 hours). Visit the famous Indian Market (only Sundays) in Tarabuco, where we will be able to appreciate how the locals exchange food, agricultural products and clothing. Lunch in a local restaurant and return to Sucre. Meals: Breakfast and lunch
Early in the morning, we will departure by private transport to Potosi (3 hours). We will visit the Casa de la Moneda (Mint house, closed on Mondays) and have a walking city tour to see the facades of the main churches, convents and also local markets. We will enjoy a typical lunch, followed by a visit to the Cerro Rico and mines. Following the mine tour, we will continue our trip by private car to Uyuni (4 hours). Today we depart for our first foray on to visit Uyuni Salt Flats. We'll be picked up from the hotel and the journey begins with a short visit to the famed (and rusting) train cemetery, full of rusting train cars that were once used to transport minerals and people to and from Uyuni. We then continue to the salt-harvesting village of Colchani to see how the locals produce salt. After this (finally!) we will reach the great destination where you will visit Uyuni Salt Flats, visiting the bizarre Incahuasi Island that is covered in enormous cacti and from where we get an amazing view of the flats. We will enjoy a beautiful sunset in the middle of the endless expanse of glittering salt and then return to Colchani to overnight in a hotel built from salt bricks! After you finished to visit Visit Uyuni Salts Flats, enjoy the breakfast, and then we’ll continue our highland safari through the lunar landscapes of the southern altiplano. We head south today and experience completely different landscapes of volcanoes, highland deserts and colorful lagoons. We will also be able to enjoy unique Andean wildlife such as flamingos, vicuñas, vizcachas and with a little luck the Andean Fox and Ostrich. We´ll have lunch beside one of the region’s many colored lagoons before continuing on though Siloli Desert to the famous Stone Tree, formed by years of wind erosion. After breakfast, we continue on to the most southern part of Lípez and Eduardo National Park, created to help conserve the region’s flora and fauna. Among other stops, we’ll be able to enjoy geysers and thermal waters and, if you dare, enjoy a soak (optional – ticket is not included and costs about 1 USD). From there we travel through the (surreal!) Dali Desert and visit the Green Lagoon with Licancabur Volcano as a backdrop. We´ll have a box lunch en route to Uyuni, passing through the Valley of the Stones yet another extraordinary geological formation created by wind and sand erosion. We reach Uyuni's airport in the late afternoon and we’ll take a flight to La Paz. Transfer to the hotel upon arrival. Rest and prepare for the La Paz tour the following day. Our half-day La Paz tour begins in the central neighborhood. We will explore the Witches' Market, with its medicinal herbs and spices, as well as spiritual and superstitious artifacts. We'll also visit San Francisco Cathedral, one of the oldest cathedrals in the city, and Plaza Murillo, before continuing to Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley) — a fascinating geological anomaly with a bizarre, moon-like landscape. We will depart from Copacabana by private ferry, en route to the Sun Island. We’ll make a short stop on the Moon Island to visit its ruins and learn more about the aymara culture that once lived on this mystical place.
