An early start today to enjoy the stunning sunrise views from atop the mysterious Mt Kelimutu (1690m). Considered home to local ancestral spirits, Mt Kelimutu contains three uniquely colored lakes from brilliant aquamarine, to ochre red to chocolate brown. Take a short walk to the best vantage points for these lakes and learn more about their importance to the local ethnic groups; and formation since the volcano’s last eruption in 1886. Descend the mountain (30mins) to the town of Moni where you can enjoy your breakfast whilst reviewing your morning’s photos. After breakfast, we continue to the Flores’ capital, Ende, where former President Soekarno was exiled by the Dutch from 1934-1938, stopping at bustling fruit market in Nduria and traditional villages. Lunch is served en route. This afternoon you drive to Bajawa, a small, quiet town surrounded by mountains in the middle of Flores. Along the way you’ll visit the colorful market of Boawae and explore the coffee plantations near Kaja. Traditional villages and scenic views fill the driving route with plenty of opportunities to stop for photos. On arrival in Bajawa check into your hotel. Dinner this evening is at the hotel or local restaurant. Read more
Breakfast at hotel This morning you drive to Ruteng via Bena, a traditional village situated at the base of a volcano. This village is noted for its unusual architecture of steeped roof, wooden houses typical of Flores, and you also visit the village of ancestral monoliths, Wogo. Visit the picturesque emerald crater lake of Ranamese and acquaint yourself with the locals of Barang village. Ruteng is located around 1100m in the volcanic highlands. Tonight you’ll stay at the Santa Maria Convent; dinner will be served at local restaurant. Read more
Breakfast at hotel In the early morning drive to Labuan Bajo, stopping at local villages for an incredible view of the Cancar spider web rice fields and Lembor irrigation area. Arriving in Labuan Bajo you board a boat to cruise to the islands of Rinca and Komodo. Lunch is served on the boat. Rinca is famous for its population of Komodo dragons as well as wild pigs, buffalos and birds. Today, the trip will continue to Komodo Island, with lunch included on the boat. Trek Komodo Island with an experienced ranger and witness a stunning view of Loh Liang bay Take a swim or go snorkeling at Red Beach on the island’s east coast, a sloping, shallow reef just off the shore which is home to an abundant variety of sealife. After breakfast at the hotel, visit Batu Cermin Cave, which means ‘Mirror Rock’ in the local language due to the eerie glow emitted when the sun shines at a certain angle. This limestone cave is home to a large bat and monkey population and also offers panoramic views of the mainland and bay. My guide Kana was really good and very knowledgeable, he made my trip memorable. The highlight for me was the rice fields, Mengwi temple and Tanah Lot, the monkey forest was small and unimpressive but the monkeys were cute. Overall a great day with some spectacular sights.
Our guide was out of this world fantastic. We went on a sunday, which we didn't realize wasn't the best day for the guides as there are religious obligations in the morning. That said, we were the only ones on the tour and i don't know if our guide took us at all off the beaten path, but we thought he may have taken us to some extra spots. It was an absolute blast. First stop was a local thread factory, where you have time to shop although this will be the priciest shopping probably in all of Bali, then a jewelry village also very expensive but you can negotiate to an extent. After that it was a bit of a longer drive to Mengwi Temple, which is just gorgeous. Then a local rice farm/coffee shop before Tanah Lot. if you don't want to get stuck in hours of traffic, ask your guide to time it right where you see the sun beginning to set at Tanah lot but don't stay for the whole duration as it is insanely crowded. I definitely recommend this day! The scenery even during the drive was amazing. It was a fun-filled day completely full of culture. Highly recommend! Read more
