Balkan Kingdoms

Take a walk through the paths of old Kingdoms. Explore a past world, filled with history, unspoiled nature and gorgeous views in just 7 days. Climb the highest peaks of Bosnia and Montenegro, raft through the deepest canyon in Europe and hike to several glacier lakes. Encompassing all this into one dynamic, adventure and history riddled tour.

Arrival and a warm welcome

- Arrival in Dubrovnik airport - Transfer to Tjentište – Sutijeska national park (3,5 h) - Trek to peak Kuk - Overnight stay in Tjentište After a brief and warm welcome, we head directly to Tjentiste. Our first location is in the Sutjeska National Park, the oldest, as well as the largest of its kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina, known for its profound natural riches. We’ll kick off our adventure in the beautiful surroundings of Mount Volujak. With peaks above 2,000 meters with a large number of glacier lakes (17 to be exact), it presents a perfect place for hikers and trekkers alike. The path leads us through its green hills and lakes to its peak, simply called Kuk. Due to its preserved and unspoiled nature, here lives one of the largest colonies of brown bears in the Balkans, as well as other wildlife. After a couple of hours of trekking, we descend to the south and to our accommodation in Tjentiste for dinner and a well-deserved rest. Read more

Climb the highest peak of Bosnia

- Climb Bosnian highest peak Maglic (2.386 mnv) - Trek to Trnovačko lake - Overnight stay After our first day of trekking and essentially warming up, today we are ready for our first serious ascent – to the highest peak of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Maglić. With our transportation we reach to a passage at 1.700 m. From here, our interesting and challenging climb begins. We’ll be in some parts exposed to the elements, but if needed, always secured by steel cables, all along the ascent. After climbing to the top (approx. 4h), we descend to Trnovo Lake, the heart of the national park of Sutjeska. Here, a well-deserved break awaits on its shores, giving us the strength to descend all the way down to the foot of the mountain, all while enjoying our downhill walk through deep, coniferous forests. We arrive at our accommodation on Tjentiste just in time for dinner, freshly made from local produce. We rest and sum our impressions of our first proper adventure. Read more

Glacier lakes hike

- Transfer to Žabljak, Montenegro (3 h) - Trek around Black and Snake lake - Overnight stay On our fourth day we’ll head over to Montenegro, for a nice and easy trek of Durmitor’s glacial lakes. Following our walk around Black Lake we’ll have an opportunity to visit one of other, nearby glacial lakes, but we could also simply lounge around and enjoy in the astonishing views offered by our accommodation in Žabljak. The depths of these lakes harbor numerous underwater passages, through which water flows into the rivers of Tara and Piva, representing a distinct natural phenomenon, a bifurcation of sorts. Black Lake, as well as the remaining glacial lakes in the vicinity of Durmitor, are collectively known as the Eyes of the Mountain. In the afternoon we rest, preparing ourselves for tomorrow’s climb to Bobotov peak, the highest peak of Montenegro. Read more

Trek to Bobotov peak (2522m)

- Trek to Bobotov peak (2.522m) - Overnight stay in Žabljak Today we’ll climb the highest peak on Durmitor, called Bobotov peak (2522 m). It’s one of the most attractive peaks of Durmitor, offering a stunning view of Škrčka lakes and surrounding peaks. During the ascent, we’ll hike and master an altitude difference of about 700 meters. And for the final part, just before the summit, there is a section that’s secured by steel cables, where with our help of experienced instructors, we’ll overcome this final obstacle and have a little congratulatory dance on the top. After our successful ascend and safe descend back to Žabljak, we’ll have an opportunity to enjoy in local cuisine from this area. After this long hiking day, a good night sleep will come as a guarantee, so we can recuperate our strength for the adventures that awaits us. Read more

Trebinje city tour /w Tvrdos winery tour

- Transfer to Trebinje (3 h) - Guided city tour of Trebinje old town - Visit to Tvrdos winery, with tasting of their selection of wine - Overnight stay in Trebinje After breakfast we descend to the south and the city of Trebinje. We take a tour of Trebinje’s old town, established as a small hamlet in the 18th century which quickly developed into a significant trading center in the region. There is scarcely a town in Herzegovina that was not erected alongside a freshwater river. Trebinje is no exception; its old town lines the banks of the Trebisnjica River that flows through the heart of the city. The river and the city have always been known for the enormous old mills which tread the Trebisnjica. Although they are not fully functional today, they remain a symbol of Herzegovina’s not-so-distant past when everything was directly connected to the power of nature. We’ll spend our last day in this little, charming city, taking a guided tour on a leisure pace, summarizing our experiences, touring around little streets of Trebinje, leaving plenty of time for some quick, or not-so-quick gift shopping and just enjoying each other’s company. After, as a treat, we’ll head on to monastery Tvrdoš to visit and taste some of their famous wine selection, indigenous for this region. Finally, we arrive back to our accommodation for our last dinner. Read more
