Today you will meet your guide at the airport of Tirana and you will be driven to the hotel. After check in to the hotel you can have a walk around the and visit the main sites of Tirana like the Statue of Skanderbeg on the new Skanderbeg Square, the Et'hem Bey Mosque at the south east corner of Skanderbeg Square, The Clock Tower next to the Et'hem Bey Mosque and some of the government buildings at the south end of Skanderbeg Square. You can also visit the Pyramid of Tirana and the Blloku area, the area which was closed for the “normal” people during Communism and see the house of Enver Hoxha. Read more

After breakfast you will depart for Berat, but before you arrive here you can make a quick stop in Durres to visit the amphitheater. After this stop you will continue to Berat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city is also known as “the city of thousand windows”. After the check in into the hotel you can have a walk in the neighbourhood called “Mangalem” and continue to the Castle and the Onufri museum. People are still living within the walls of the castle, just like their ancestors did. Onufri was an Albanian Icon master painter of the 16th century who painted many orthodox churches in Albania and Greece. Read more

Berat

After breakfast there will be some time to stroll along the streets of Berat (and visit the places you could not visit the day before) before heading to Vlora, but before you arrive here, you can pay a visit to Ardenica, which is an Orthodox monastery built in the 13th century. It is thought that it was in this idyllic place that the marriage of the Albanian national hero Scanderbeg was celebrated in the 15th century. After Ardenica you will make a stop at in Apollonia, situated on the famous Via Egnatia. Apollonia was founded at the beginning of the 7th century BC by the Greek colonists and in Roman times, it was a large and flourishing city (with 50.000 residents in the second century BC) near Aos river (today Vjosa). The monastery (which houses the museum) courtyard enclosed a Byzantine church dating back to the 14th century. From here it is around one hour to the coastal town of Vlora. Read more

Vlora

This day you will only be driving along the Albanian Riviera overlooking the Ionian Sea to Saranda. After around 45 minutes you will have a stop to enjoy the view from the Llogara Pass. From here you drive to the villages of Dhermi and Himara where you can enjoy a coffee or a lunch break and dive into the crystal clear waters. After this you can continue to Porto Palermo, where the Ali Pasha Castle stands like a barrier in front of the blue rocky sea as a protection for the country. The bay of Porto Palermo once served as an important secret submarine base during the regime days. The semi abandoned base and the tunnel are still visible. From here it is around 60 minutes to your hotel in Saranda. Read more

Saranda

After breakfast you will depart for the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Butrint. The city was founded by the Trojans during the first millennium BC and was continuously inhabited for centuries. After this you can make a stop at the Islands of Ksamil to enjoy a coffee overlooking the islands and the Greek island of Corfu. After this coffee break you will be driven to the blue eye spring, formed by underground springs and from here it is around 45 minutes to the UNESCO town of Gjirokastra, and is said to be one of the most beautiful historical towns in Albania and known as “museum city”. Here you can visit the biggest fortress in Albania, built during the 4th century and house of the National Museum of Weapons. You can also pay a visit to the Ethnographic Museum, which is located in the house where the Albanian dictator (Enver Hoxha) was born. Read more

Today you have the whole day to walk around the streets of Gjirokastra where you can visit the places which you didn’t visit the day before (also possible to visit the house of Skenduli in front of the Ethnographic Museum and the nuclear bunker of Hoxha under the castle) and enjoy the tranquility of the old town of this city. After breakfast there will be some time to walk around Gjirokastra before departing for Permet where you can take a walk to visit the wonderful church of Leusa and experience local lifestyle. After breakfast there will be some time to walk around Permet before heading to Korca. Today you will be driving the southern panoramic road with stunning scenery of the Vjosa canyons and the mountainous area of Leskovik. When you arrive in Korca you can visit (if time allows us) the Museum of Medieval Arts, The first school of Albania, the Mosque of Mirahori, one of the oldest in the country, and the Orthodox Cathedral. After breakfast you will depart Pogradec, a town located on the lake of Ohrid, but before you arrive here you will make a stop in the small town of Voskopoja which was one of the most important towns in the Balkans during the beginning of the 18th century, here you can visit its most important church with frescoes from the Zeografi brothers before continuing for Pogradec. After breakfast there is some time to stroll along the boulevard of Pogradec before heading to Kruja, which was the centre of the legendary Albanian resistance against the Turks led by our national hero, Skanderbeg. Kruja is located on the cliffs of mount Kruja which offers superb views of the coast and the surrounding villages. Here you can visit the Kruja fortress, the Skanderbeg museum, the Ethnographic museum and the famous old Bazaar Street. Read more

After an early breakfast you will be departing to the village of Koman, the starting point of the Koman Ferry. The ferry to Fierze takes around 3 hours and during this trip you can enjoy the beautiful lake of Koman with breath-taking views of the scenery of the dramatic mountains and green hills. After arriving in Fierze it is another hour through beautiful nature before we arrive in the village of Valbona. After check-in you can have a walk through the mountains of Valbona. Read more

Today you will have the whole day to hike around the beautiful area of Valbona. You will hike up the mountain to the village of Kukaj where you can enjoy a home-cooked lunch.

After breakfast you will have some time to walk around Valbona before crossing the border into the newest country of Europe, Kosovo. From Valbona it is around a 2,5 hour drive to the beautiful Ottoman Style town of Prizren. Prizren is a city where three major religions and great cultures come together. Here you can visit several sites such as the Castle of Prizren, the Orthodox Church, the mosque and the catholic cathedral. Read more

Today you will spend in the north-western part of Kosovo and visit the city of Gjakova, the beautiful Decani Monastery, the city of Peja and the waterfalls of Peja where you can enjoy a lunch.

Another full day in Kosovo where you will visit the eastern part of this country. After breakfast you will drive to Pristina, but before arriving here, you can visit the Monastery of Gracanica, which was constructed on the ruins of an older 13th century church of the Holy Virgin, which was built on the ruins of a 6th century early Christian three-naved basilica. After the Monastery you can pay a visit to the beautiful cave of Gadime. From the cave of Gadime you will drive to Pristina to enjoy a lunch and visit the main attractions before heading back to Prizren. Read more
