Early departure (7.00 am from the Villa Belle to reach the volcano Piton de la Fournaise, one of the most active volcanoes in the world. The drive will take around 2h or 1h15 depending of traffic.
On this Mauritius volcano tour you will discover many different landscapes along the road, from lands
where cows graze peacefully, to cryptomerias (pines) forest and steppes. Then you will arrive at La Plaine des Sables, a breath taking lunar landscape.
Then drive to the Pas de Bellecombe, site from where you will have a panoramic overview on the volcano. Time for discovering and pictures.
The culminant point is at 2631 m, this the top of the crater, that hikers can reach in 3 hours, quite hard hike because of the instable soil. The crater collapsed during the 2007 eruption and felt down of 300m deep. When the volcano is getting in eruption, the lava flows to the ocean on the east coast.
On the way back to Bourg Murat where the lunch takes place, you will make a stop at Le Nez de Boeuf to have a look on the Rivière des ramparts (Rem-parts River).
Lunch time in a typical « creole » restaurant to enjoy the « cari », main course on the island including rice, beans (lentils or red beans), meat or fish.
Then you will visit the volcano museum, an interactive and interesting moment. A 6000 m2 site where technology and innovation are highlighted to make this visit attractive and enriching.
Way back to the hotel, about 1h30 driving.
