Early departure (7.00 am from the Villa Belle to reach the volcano Piton de la Fournaise, one of the most active volcanoes in the world. The drive will take around 2h or 1h15 depending of traffic. On this Mauritius volcano tour you will discover many different landscapes along the road, from lands where cows graze peacefully, to cryptomerias (pines) forest and steppes. Then you will arrive at La Plaine des Sables, a breath taking lunar landscape. Then drive to the Pas de Bellecombe, site from where you will have a panoramic overview on the volcano. Time for discovering and pictures. The culminant point is at 2631 m, this the top of the crater, that hikers can reach in 3 hours, quite hard hike because of the instable soil. The crater collapsed during the 2007 eruption and felt down of 300m deep. When the volcano is getting in eruption, the lava flows to the ocean on the east coast. On the way back to Bourg Murat where the lunch takes place, you will make a stop at Le Nez de Boeuf to have a look on the Rivière des ramparts (Rem-parts River). Lunch time in a typical « creole » restaurant to enjoy the « cari », main course on the island including rice, beans (lentils or red beans), meat or fish. Then you will visit the volcano museum, an interactive and interesting moment. A 6000 m2 site where technology and innovation are highlighted to make this visit attractive and enriching. Villa Belle is a delightful and stylish guesthouse in an old part of St-Pierre, in the south of Reunion. Originally an authentic Creole home, with the characteristic verandahs.Villa Belle has a small pool for guests’ use. The pool terrace is well provided with comfortable sun beds and parasols. You can have breakfast in the beautiful gardens and afternoon tea in the outdoor “salon de thé”. The coach with the guide will pick you up at your hotel ( usually departure at 7.30 am from Villa Belle ) You will drive to reach Cilaos , one of the 3 calderas of the island ( the original volcano of the island, Piton des neiges collapsed and created the 3 calderas : Cilaos, Mafate and Salazie ). It is well known because of its picturesque road : 400 turns road. This caldera is the dryer one and the most famous. It is around 1h30 driving to reach the village The “ cirque” is well known regarding the culture of lentils and vineyards. The wine of Cilaos is a very sweety and basic. You will drive trough the village to reach the overview point of La Roche merveilleuse from where you will enjoy a wonderful view of the caldera and the village. South of Reunion Island remains one of the wildest part of the island, it’s luxuriant nature and abrupt cliffs will suprise you. Your driver/guide will pick you up at the hotel around 7am from the Villa Belle, your first stop will be at Cap Mechant, well known for it’s stunning cliffs made of lava arks overlooking the Indian ocean. Your next stop will be at « the Grand brulé » which means the « great burn » because the lava has burnt all the forest on it’s way fown to the sea, all along the road you will be able to admire the old lava flows. Then you will stop at the most famous church of Reunion Island, « Notre Dame des Laves », well known for being the church that miraculiously escaped the lava flows in 1977 You will have lunch in a typical creole restaurant serving authentic dishes, especially the « cari « ( main course on the island ) The afternoon will be spent visiting « Jardin des senteurs et des épices », Private garden that has more than a thousand local species of plants/ flowers/trees.
