DAY 1
Arrival in Reunion Island

DAY 2
VOLCANO EXCURSION
Early departure (7.00 am from the Lux to reach the volcano Piton de la Fournaise, one of the most active volcanoes in the world. The drive will take around 2h or 1h15 depending of traffic. In this volcano excursion, you will discover many different landscapes along the road, from lands where cows graze peacefully, to cryptomerias (pines) forest and steppes. Then you will arrive at La Plaine des Sables, a breath taking lunar landscape. Then drive to the Pas de Bellecombe, site from where you will have a panoramic overview on the volcano. Time for discovering and pictures. The culminant point is at 2631 m, this the top of the crater, that hikers can reach in 3 hours, quite hard hike because of the instable soil. The crater collapsed during the 2007 eruption and felt down of 300m deep. When the volcano is getting in eruption, the lava flows to the ocean on the east coast. On the way back from the volcano excursion to Bourg Murat where the lunch takes place, you will make a stop at Le Nez de Boeuf to have a look on the Rivière des ramparts (Rem-parts River). Lunch time in a typical « creole » restaurant to enjoy the « cari », main course on the island including rice, beans (lentils or red beans), meat or fish. Then you will visit the volcano museum, an interactive and interesting moment. A 6000 m2 site where technology and innovation are highlighted to make this visit attractive and enriching. DAY 4
CILAOS EXCURSION
The coach with the guide will pick you up at your hotel ( usually departure at 7.30 am from Lux ) and then you will head to begin your Cilaos excursion. You will drive to reach Cilaos , one of the 3 calderas of the island ( the original volcano of the island, Piton des neiges collapsed and created the 3 calderas : Cilaos, Mafate and Salazie ). It is well known because of its picturesque road : 400 turns road. This caldera is the dryer one and the most famous. It is around 1h30 driving to reach the village The “ cirque” is well known regarding the culture of lentils and vineyards. The wine of Cilaos is a very sweety and basic. You will drive trough the village to reach the overview point of La Roche merveilleuse from where you will enjoy a wonderful view of the caldera and the village. Nice place to take pictures Lunch time at restaurant in the village, with a typical “ créole” menu: caris ( the main course on the island with rice, beans or lentils and meat or fish ) Then you will continue your Cilaos excursion and visit village with your guide who will give you many historical and cultural details about the “ cirque “, as it was a very famous thermal place Then way back to your hotel at approx. 5.00 pm. SALAZIE EXCURSION
Well known for its gorgeous waterfalls and typical creole houses, Salazie is by far one of the must see villages of Reunion Island. Located in the East part of the island, you will drive through St Denis to reach it and start your Salazie excursion. The Piton des neig-es (the original volcano of the island) collapsed and created 3 calderas: Cilaos, Mafate and Salazie. Salazie is the largest and the greenest caldera of the 3. It will take you around 2 h00 driving to reach the little village of Hell Bourg, where you will continue the Salazie excursion. On your way you will have a first stop at the Vanilleraie, a typical Grand Hazier domain located in an old stable from 1897. The Vanilleraie invites visitors to discover the incredible story of Bourbon’s Vanilla in a unique site. Then back on the road with different stops Voile de la Mariée waterfall and Mare à poule d’eau. Arrival at Hell Bourg, typical “créole” village, with all its lovely authentic old houses. Lunch time at restaurant, where you will be served a typical “créole” cuisine: caris (the usual food on the island with rice, beans or lentils and meat or fish) The afternoon will be spent with your guide continuing the Salazie excursion and visiting the village and discover its traditions as well as its local art and craft. This is a full day excursion, departure from the hotel is around 7.30 am from the Lux and you will be back around 5pm. Read more

Deep South
South of Reunion Island remains one of the wildest part of the island, it’s luxuriant nature and abrupt cliffs will suprise you. Your driver/guide will pick you up at the hotel around 7am from the Lux, your first stop will be at Cap Mechant, well known for it’s stunning cliffs made of lava arks overlooking the Indian ocean. Your next stop will be at « the Grand brulé » which means the « great burn » because the lava has burnt all the forest on it’s way fown to the sea, all along the road you will be able to admire the old lava flows. Then you will stop at the most famous church of Reunion Island, « Notre Dame des Laves », well known for being the church that miraculiously escaped the lava flows in 1977 You will have lunch in a typical creole restaurant serving authentic dishes, especially the « cari « ( main course on the island ) The afternoon will be spent visiting « Jardin des senteurs et des épices », Private garden that has more than a thousand local species of plants/ flowers/trees. The last but not the least beautiful day at LUX* St Gilles, a head full of happy memories, stories to tell and emotions to share before going home with unforgettable moments!
