Game of Thrones Tour

The Game of Thrones television series has captured the imagination of people from around the world. Millions have been captivated and enthralled by the twists, turns and intrigues of the plot and mesmerised by the stunning scenery! Northern Ireland is where much of the filming took place and so we have created a tour which will take you to the spots where the show was filmed in this Game of Thrones tour.

Dublin to Belfast

Arrival to Dublin begin your Game of Thrones tour and travel north to Belfast which is divided into four quarters: the Gaeltacht Quarter, the Cathedral Quarter, the Queen’s Quarter and the Titanic Quarter. Each quarter has its own defining characteristics, but the one that unifies them is the people and their charismatic nature and welcoming charm. Don’t miss the Titanic Belfast. There are nine galleries of interactive exhibition space, a dark ride, underwater exploration theatre, recreations of the ship’s decks and cabins and a luxurious conference and banqueting suite. This landmark structure is truly a sight to behold, with a unique architectural design influenced by numerous maritime themes, including the unforgettable forward bow of the Titanic itself. County Down Tour

On your second day of the Game of Thrones tour it is time to head southwards and embark on a County Down tour. There are quite a few locations where GoT was shot and we completely understand why: County Down and the Mourne Mountains are just stunning! Visit Tollymore Forest Park. Established in 1955, Tollymore Park was Northern Ireland's first state forest park. On this County Down tour you will discover that it is situated at the foot of the Mourne Mountains, the park covers some 1,600 acres and enjoys some stunning views of both the Mourne Mountains and the seas at Newcastle. Tollymore is also the home of the Wildlings (and the White Walkers...) Continue your County Down tour to Inch Abbey which served as the backdrop for the "Twins" - Walder Frey's Twin Castles. Another must-see is the Castle Ward, an 18th century period house which is set amidst some 820 acres overlooking Strangford Lough. Castle Ward is also known as Winterfell, the home of House Stark. After the County Down tour, it is time to leave Belfast today and make your way to the Antrim Coast. On the way you should not only enjoy the beautiful landscape of the Glens of Antrim but also some of the Game of Thrones locations. Drive through the scenic Shillanavogy Valley which was the very first Dothraki Camp in season 1. Continue on to Cairncastle. Remember the first ever spisode of GoT? When Ned Stark beheads this Night's Watch deserter? This scene was filmed here. Also the scene where Catelyn Stark captures Tyrion Lannister. Make your way up along the scenic coast for your overnight in North Antrim. Read more

Antrim to Derry

This is going to be a long and eventful day. You will be exploring the amazing and breathtaking Causeway Coast. No wonder that so many of the Game of Thrones scenes were filmed here. Cushendun Caves: The Red Priestess gave birth to the Shadow Baby in these caves. Murlough Bay: One of the most beautiful bays on the Antrim Coast. Theon Greyjoy and Yara were riding here on their way to Pyke. Ballycastle: a lovely little village. Parts of it were used as backdrop for the Free Cities where Varys was born. Dark Hedges, near Armoy: Definitely make the 30 minute detour to Armoy where the Dark Hedges are located. These were popular even before GoT was filmed here. They can be seen in Arya's escape from King's Landing. Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge: Another famous attraction on the Causeway Coast. Will you dare to cross the bridge? Carrick-a-Rede was also used as the background for Storm's End (seat of House Baratheon). Ballintoy Harbour: This cute little harbour can be seen in GoT as Lordsport Harbour on the Pyke & Iron Islands. Giant's Causeway: The most popular and absolute must-see attraction on the Causeway Coast! Nope, it wasn't in GoT (yet?) - but make sure to visit anyhow! Mussenden Temple & Downhill Strand: Remember the scene in Game of Thrones when the 7 idols of Westeros were burned? This was filmed on Downhill Strand and looking up from the beach, the Mussenden Temple can be seen, too. Overnight in Co. Derry wehre you will reste and get ready for the Derry tour the following day. Read more
