You will be pickup at the Tuxtla Gutierrez Airport and vistit Sumidero Canyon where you will enjoy a motor boat cruise through the middle of this spectacular canyon. In this national park, it´s possible to see local wildlife such as crocodiles, spider monkeys, and herons. At the end, you will be transferred to the Colonial City of San Cristobal de las Casas, founded in 1528 by the captain Diego de Mazariegos, and declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity. After breakfast, pick up at your hotel in San Cristobal, you will visit the historical center including Zocalo (main plaza), the Cathedral, the Law Faculty, and other buildings rich in colonial architecture such as the Casa de las Artesanias, Casa de Cultura and the Arco del Carmen. The final part of the tour is the visit to the central market and Santo Domingo Church. The indigenous people of Chiapas speak their own language (often in addition to Spanish), practice their own unique customs and can be identified by their traditional dress that varies by group. They continue to depend primarily on agriculture for their economic well-being; however, it’s not unusual for them to travel into San Cristobal to sell their handmade crafts and shop in the markets for everyday items to take back to their villages. San Juan Chamula, is a town steeped in history, and yet also allows a look into the Mayas of today. This is the largest Maya township in Chiapas.This region is known for its agricultural and ceremonial lifestyles, which are a mixture of Catholic and Mayan beliefs. The Catholic Church of San Juan Bautista, in fact, is not part of any Diocese because residents desire the freedom to perform various types of rituals. The road to the village of San Lorenzo Zinancantan is about 11 km. long. Zinancantán people are also Tzotzil Mayans and the predominant dress is in very distinctive costumes of pink and purple. After breakfast, be transfer to the Montebello Lagoons, there are 50 communicated lakes surrounded by lush vegetation, where we will be able to take beautiful pictures. There are shelters, soup kitchens and rafts. Located two hours from San Cristobal de las Casas, El Chiflon is an eco-touristic park where you can take a 60 minutes tour, next to the turquoise water of the river. During the journey it is possible to stop and observe the main waterfalls and cascades until you get to the highest waterfall "Velo de Novia" with a fall of over 120 meters high and surrounded by lush vegetation. Amatenango del Valle is a Tzeltal town located on a small hill surrounded by cornfields covered valley. It is known for its excellent pottery made by natives who still used in its preparation prehispanic methods. You will see women with their typical dresses: blue or red skirt, white Huipil embroidered in red and yellow and a headdress. End your day with drop off at your Hotel. Read more
After breakfast, be transfer to Palenque Archaeological Site, located in the middle of lush vegetation, this is one of the most important ceremonial centers of the Mayan culture during the classic period. We will visit the famous Temple of the Inscriptions where the tomb of Pakal was found, the Palace, and the Foliated Cross Temple, as well as the museum. Excursion Agua Azul: Enjoy the beauty of the mountain landscapes and the wonderful Agua Azul waterfalls. This place consists of many cascades following one after. The larger cascades may be as high as 6 meters (20 feet). The perfect place to make beautiful photos. If weather alows, time will be made for swimming at the falls. After breakfast, visit La Venta Park. The original archaeological site was located on an Island in a swampy near the Golf of Mexico. The very impressing pieces found there have been moved to La Venta Park Museum in Villahermosa. The poet Carlos Pellicer initiated the foundation of this open-air Museum in1952, 36 megalithic stone structures have been transported from La Venta archaeological site and have been erected here in the park in Villahermosa. The park museum is surrounded by a zoo, with local animals, such as spider monkey and Jaguars. End your at Villahermosa Airport, where you can take your flight home!!! Read more
