Georgia is a fascinating country with it's fascinating landscapes, Great Caucasus Mountains, ancient churches, monasteries and cave towns, fantastic wines and cuisine. You will have an opportunity to discover the beauty of the country in 10 days.

DAY 1

Arrival in Tbilisi

Arrival at the airport. Transfer to the hotel.

DAY 2

Tbilisi

Today we will explore the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi. Wonder in the old districts of the city which are structured like terraces, as well as take a walk in the narrow streets to enjoy colorful houses, patterned balconies and wonderful samples of modern architecture. We will start the tour from Metekhi church (13th century) facing the magnificent views over old Tbilisi. A stroll along winding little streets takes us to the main sights of the city. Afterwards take cable cars up to the ancient Narikala fortress (4th century) to enjoy the panoramic views of the whole town and then walk down to the historical domed sulphur bath area- connected with the name of our city. Finally the Golden Fund of the historical museum (closed on Mondays) will prove the fact that Georgia is truly the land of the Golden Fleece. Overnight at a hotel in Tbilisi. Read more

DAY 3

Tbilisi-Sighnahgi-Gremi-Kvar

Today we travel in Kakheti region famous for being wine making area, as well as associated with welcoming hospitality. Here we can see both snowy Caucasus mountains and fertile valleys. Firstly we visit 18th century beautiful, small town of Sighnaghi which will impress us with its old fence and small houses with tile roofs and decorated balconies. From here we can see the picturesque views of Alazani valley and Great Caucasus mountains. After that visit the Monastery of Bodbe(11th c.) where Georgia`s enlightener - Saint Nino was buried and see its beautiful garden as well. Later visit traditional Georgian wine cellar, which is a kind of ethnographic museum, where we can find Georgian wine cellar characteristic features, as well as ancient things. Here we taste wine made by traditional way in Kvevri (clay vessel). This method of wine making is inscribed in UNESCO intangible heritage list. Lunch with homemade dishes and wine. we drive to visit Gremi Architectural Complex (16th century). Overnight in Kvareli. Read more

Kvareli-Alaverdi-Tsiandnali-

In the morning we visit the magnificent Alaverdi cathedral (11th c). Then drive to visit a local Duke Alexander Chavchavadze`s estate in Tsinandali with its beautiful garden. The park and the house used to be the gathering place of all poets and artists of the 19th century. Afterwards we continue to Kisiskhevi village to taste excellent wines at Schuchmann's winery. Drive via beautiful Gombori pass to Tbilisi. Overnight in Tbilisi. Read more

DAY 5

Tbilisi-Mtskheta-Akhaltsikhe

We drive to visit the ancient capital and religious centre of Georgia – Mtskheta (3000 years old) and see its historical places: Jvari church (6th century) and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11th century) where the Robe of Christ is buried. Both Jvari and Svetitskhoveli are UNESCO World Heritage sites. Visit antique ruins of the city and drive to South Western part of Georgia. Arrive in Akhaltsikhe. Overnight in Akhaltsikhe. Read more

Akhaltsikhe-Vardzia-Akhaltsi

In the morning we travel to Vardzia. On the way visit Khertvisi fortress (10th century). The magnificent cave town – Vardzia (12th century) is one of the highlights of the trip. It stretches over half a kilometer along the river Mtkvari and has 19 tiers. There used to be about 3000 caves. It’s got a church hewn out in rock with amazing 12th century frescos. The complex also includes dwellings quarters, small hall-type churches, refectories, wine cellars, pharmacy, etc. Delicious lunch with locals. Overnight in Akhaltsikhe. Read more

Akhaltsikhe-Vardzia-Akhaltsi

In the morning we will visit the town of Gori and its historical places: Uplistsikhe Cave Town (1st millennium BC) and Stalin’s museum. Uplistsikhe is the place where the Great Silk Road used to pass. This is an old and interesting complex with dwelling quarters, wine-cellars, bakeries, a three-nave basilica church hewn out in rock and even an antic theatre. Afterwards drive up the famous Georgian Military Highway (leading to the Georgian-Russian border). On the way visit Ananuri architectural complex (17th century), the two churches and the fortress overlook the Zhinvali water reservoir. The carvings on the churches are one of the best samples of the Georgian art. The drive is very scenic through high Caucasus Mountains. Dinner and overnight at a hotel in Gudauri ski resort (2200 m.). Read more

Dear Khatuna, We are writing to thank you for your arrangement for our trip in Georgia. Though the weather was not too good that we needed to change our itinerary, we appreciated much the help of our driver Georgi who did a good job. He brought us to feel the beautiful snow that evening which was not his duty, and always took care of us by providing coffee, tea and very yummy snacks on the way. We feel especially impressed by Georgi who tried very hard using Geogle translation even though he couldn't speak English, and was very patient to have stopped the car for us to take nice photos. Our family was emotional at the time of departure to part such a lovely company. She was very informative and we also took notice how she cared about the environment by making sure to collect all the plastic bottles she saw on the locations of the attractions and later disposing them to where it belongs. She is well versed about the places we visited and she did share the history of each locations. Her passion to her job was evident each time she told the history of Georgia. Also, she made it a point to leave the hotel only after we have completed the check-in process and received the key. And Guram, was also a very helpful man. I guess it was his inefficiency with the language made it difficult for him to entertain us. But his smile once in a while did make us very happy.
