After a short rest, we start visiting the major sights of the capital; including the Wat Sisaket, the oldest temple with thousands of miniature Buddha statues, and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo, which previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image. Get transfer to the ariport for a short flight to Xiang Khouang. Upon arrival, we transfer out to visit the Plain of Jars, an impressive archaeological site encompassing hundreds of large stone jars scattered throughout the plateau. Today, visit plain of jar site 1 of the Plain of Jars, located 10 km from Phonesavanh with over 300 jars before we drive to the picturesque and charming town of Luang Prabang. The drive takes along mountainous winding roads with opportunities to stop for photos and explore the numerous local hill tribe villages. Upon arrival in Luang Prabang you will be taken to your hotel. Today, we enjoy a short-guided tour of the city’s oldest temple Wat Sene and the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its sweeping low roofs, which represents the classical architecture of Luang Prabang temple. We then embark on a boat journey upstream along the Mekong River, which also gives us a beautiful view of the tranquil countryside as well as an interesting visit to the mysterious Pak Ou Caves, two linked caves crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by pilgrims. En route, we stop at the village of Ban Xanghai, where the local speciality of rice wine is produced. After breakfast there is an excursion by road to the picturesque Khouang Sy Waterfalls nestled in lush tropical forest. Return to Luang Prabang visit Vat Mai Temple, which was the residence of a Buddhist patriarch until 1975, before climbing Phousi Hill for an outstanding view over the former Royal capital and the Mekong River. After breakfast we visit The National Museum (closed Tuesdays) at the former Royal Palace, which displays a lovely collection of the artifacts reflecting the richness of Lao culture dating back from the days of the early kings right through to the last sovereign. We can also visit a prominent Luang Prabang silver smith’s, the Fine Arts School and the Central Market taking a flight to Vientiane. After checking into your hotel, we transfer out to see the Buddha Park, an enchanting collection of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures on the Mekong Riverside meadow and Friendship Bridge. There are approximately 200 religious images dating back over 500 years, which were created by a mysterious monk spreading his philosophy on life and to reveal his ideas about the universe. I cannot recommend this company high enough. All we had to do was tell Ms Ngoan Le our travel consultant at the company the area and an idea of what we wanted to see and she did the rest, which included booking hotels, organising our tour and our own personal tour guide and driver . We ended up having a fantastic holiday of a lifetime. Our guide 'Vu' was so friendly and knowledgeable about everywhere we went. Our tour included an overnight stay at a Homestay which I was a little unsure about but Ms Ngoan assured me that I would enjoy it and that it would be a very good way to experience the home life of the Vietnamese. In the event it was a wonderful experience thanks to our guide 'Vu' and the family we stayed with. Ms Ngoan was right. We also took the tour of the Cu Chi tunnels, City tour of Saigon and the early morning tour which included seeing how the Vietnamese start their day doing Tai Chi, aerobics, badminton etc in the parks. We also visited the fresh food markets. All the tours were so interesting made especially so thanks to the detailed knowledge and friendly approach of 'Vu'. Thanks to Travel Authentic Asia our cruise of SE Asia was a pleasure! Our cruise ship offered tours at three times the price in some cases and had far less qualified guides. Travel Authentic was punctual, knowledgeable and friendly. The follow-up with Ngoan was thorough and efficient as well. Arriving in Hanoi, we were at the mercy of our tour guide, Sonny. His introduction, presentation and welcome was truly professional. Something about him gave us a very positive vibe that we were in for a good time. The tour was well paced and with a very knowledgeable and passionate tour guide, the trip was made a bit more memorable. Having private guides is definitely recommended. Travelling across Vietnam we had other tour guides and all were really good and pleasant to deal with. The guides took care of small details. Sense of humour, good command of English, accommodating changes on the run was really appreciated. All the hotels were of a good/high standards, the drivers made the trips safer and the best experience was the cyclo ride in Hanoi. The people were nice and the most memorable moment we recall: a local lady seeing my daughter stuck on the other side of the road went back across and guided my daughter safely weaving through the rushing traffic with such an ease in HCM city. What kindness from the people of Vietnam. Vietnam and Cambodia are great places to visit as they have lots of history, beauty and scenic places to see and having Travel Authentic Asia organise it all meant we could totally enjoy the trip without having to worry about hotels, transports and most meals. Definitely recommend them to anyone contemplating visiting Vietnam/Cambodia. Read more
