In 1944 the city was declared a national cultural monument and in 1979 the United Nations acknowledge Antigua as a World Heritage site. Antigua will give you the opportunity to travel back in time 400 years and walk the cobblestone streets of Central Park and visit the General Captains Palace, the Cathedral and the Arms Museum. Then revisit the religious epoch by touring the churches and convents you will also have the opportunity to visit a factory where the ancient tradition of jade craftsmanship is practiced today. Thursday and Sunday, traders bring their produce, textiles and handiwork from all the towns of the regions displaying them for barter and purchase. A visit to the colonial Church of Santo Tomas will prove to be a mystical experience. At 05:15 a.m. depart to the airport ready to board the flight to Flores airport located in Petén, the North Central area of Guatemala. We will continue to old Leon, first city founded in 1524, and declared by UNESCO “Human Patrimony’’, we will appreciate this old city and its history. Then we will arrive to the actual city of Leon, where you will have the opportunity to explore the culture, history and politics of one of the most ancient cities with more influence in Nicaragua. Defined by its elegant spanish colonial architecture and its fascinating politic history. You will discover why Leon is considered the historical, cultural, educative and religious capital of Nicaragua. The best way to explore this incredible city is walking, because you cand find its charming going over the colonial streets, museums, restaurants and coffee bars. Breakfast. San Jacinto is a small town located at north-east of León. Behind the town you can see mud holes, probably connected to Telica Volcano. The area is not big, but is interesting to walk through the different holes and see their variation of size and color.
