In the morning, on a pool excursion, you will be heading to Valdés Peninsula, home to countless marine fauna. You will discover Birds´Island, on the Ameghino Isthmus and Puerto Pirámides, a seaside town located on the cliffs of the Peninsula.
Between February and April, you can witness
the Orcas approaching the beach and enjoy their sightseeing. In fact, they have developed a special hunting technique for the sea lion: taking in the high tide and the big waves, they swim violently towards the beach and manage to catch any resting or distracted sea lion. The next wave will help the Orca get back to the sea with its prey. Highly successful and impressive, this is a one of a kind technique, but also very risky. The young Orcas only have one try to understand the subtleness, if they fail they can get stuck on the beach and possibly die.
Entrance to Peninsula Valdes Natural Reserve for one day.
Excursion from mid-May to mid-December:
From Puerto Pirámides, you embark to watch the Southern Right Whale. They are characterized by their smooth and slow movements, and being so curious, they get very close to the boats. Therefore it allows us to easily observe their skin covered by calluses. From time to time, they swim under the boats, releasing a particular sound and then they surprise us with their plunging. It is an unforgettable sight. If the weather is fair and luck is on your side, you will get to watch dolphins following the boat. Return to Puerto Madryn.
Excursion from January to March/April:
The whales have migrated to the Southern Seas, but you have the chance of another sea excursion to the Loberia of Punta Pirámides, shelter to sea lions. From a viewing deck and according to the season, you will observe the different activities performed by this colony of sea lions: from the formation of harems, giving birth to breeding and so on. You will also visit a Cormorant colony and other sea and land birds and then head into a cave full of fossils. Return trip back to Puerto Madryn.
