Lima - Caral - Huaraz
You leave Lima via the North-Panamericana road to visit the archaeological site of Caral, first city of America. This ancient archaeological site was recently discovered. It brings a new explanation on the formation of the civilizations. Then, the journey continues to Huaraz, capital of Ancash region in the White Cordillera. Installation at the hotel. Huaraz - Chavin de Huantar
Morning departure to the village of Chavin. Along the way, you discover the Lake Querococha, you pass through the tunnel Kawish to 4,500 m. above sea level and the Conchucos Valley. From the ninth to the second century BC, the Chavin culture was considered as the mother culture of the Peruvian civilizations. The Chavin of Huantar site was an important religious and political center that had an influence in the current territory of Peru. Due to its characteristics, this site is considered as a privileged step to understand the development of the next civilizations and the Andean Cosmovision. The high level of knowledge of Chavins people in hydraulics, astronomy, architecture, physics or mathematics reinforces the interest of this site. Guided tour of the site and the museum. Huaraz - Llanganuco Lagoon
Morning departure by private vehicle for the Llanganuco lagoon in the heart of one of the most beautiful valleys of the White Cordillera. This day will be an opportunity to discover the Campo Santo in Yungay, a town that was completely destroyed during the 1970 earthquake, most the lakes of Llanganuco, before getting to Portachuelo Pass to enjoy an extraordinary panorama composed of numerous peaks of over 6000m above sea level 6: Nevado Chopicalqui (6.354 m.), the Huascaran (6,768 m.), the Huandoy (6,395 m.), the Pisco (5.747 m.) and the Chacrararu (6.112 m. ). Huaraz - Sechin - Trujillo
Departure to the Pacific coast and the city of Trujillo. Along the way, visit the ruins of Sechin, one of the oldest sites of Peru. Known for its low reliefs of warriors heads, Sechin is a temple that was integrated in the development of the Andean Cosmovision, regarding as the basis of the belief of the South American people. Trujillo - Huacas de la luna
Visit of the main tourist interests of the city of Trujillo: colonial mansions, Main Square and the Cathedral. Trujillo, with it's wooden balconies, wrought ironwork and painted colonial facades, is one of the most colorful cities in Peru and shows signs of remarkable economic development. You will visit the historic downtown including the Plaza de Armas, colonial mansions, cathedral, church of La Merced, and Plazuela el Recreo. Excursions to the Temples of the Sun and of the Moon and the religious centers of the Mochica culture, dating back from 500 A.D. The temples have been buried under the sand and are extremely well preserverd. You will be able to observe murals that are several thousand years old in a great state of conservation. Trujillo-Chan Chan-Huanchaco
Half day tour to Chan Chan, former capital city of the Chimu Empire (13th century), built in adobe (sun-dried bricks). We will visit the Nik-An palace and other official buildings of the Chimu culture. Chan Chan was a very important ceremonial center at the time. The Chimu took over the region after the Mochicas were allegedly weakened by a strong climate change due to the el Niño phenomenon. In the temple, there are many symbolic elements representing el Niño, showing its importance for the nortern coastal civilisations of Peru. Visit of the Rainbow temple close to the city of Trujillo. Relaxation in the seaside village of Huanchaco, where fishermen use traditional reed boats, the “Caballitos de Totora”. Lunch options in one of the local cevicherias overlooking the ocean, where you might see the fishermen riding their “see horses”. The Trujillo fishermen are actually the first surfers, this technique was actually used by the Mochicas in the 5th century. Night at the hotel Los Conquistadores. Cajamarca-Cumbe May -Otuzco
Day dedicated to the visit of Cajamarca and its surroundings. In the morning, we go to the Cumbe Mayo site with its "forest of stones", also known for its several kilometer aqueduct carved in the rock at more than 3500m of altitude with its enigmatic cross and its cave covered with petroglyphs. Continuation to the "Ventanillas de Otuzco", pre-Inca funeral niches dug in the rock. In the afternoon, visit the famous "ransom chamber", a room where Atahualpa was imprisoned before the fall of the Inca Empire, the only remaining remnant of this period. Stroll through the city, passing through the central square, the Belen Church, the Archaeological Museum and the Cathedral. Return to the hotel in Cajamarca. Nigth at the Hotel Costa del Sol. In the morning, excursion to the impressive necropolis of Huaca Rajada, funeral center of the Mochica culture where many tombs have been discovered, notably that of the lord of Sipan, character of the elite Moche. Visit the museum site. In the afternoon, visit the Tumbas Reales Museum (closed on Mondays), which has an interesting collection of jewels found on tombs. Continuation by visiting the archaeological complex of Túcume, "the Valley of the Pyramids" of the culture Lambayeque, 40 minutes from Chiclayo.
