Visit the bustling Chinatown, the iconic Cat statue, the colourful Tua Pek Kong Chinese Buddhist temple, the Kuching Civic Centre – where the viewing platform offers panoramic views of the city and surroundings – and visit the Sarawak Museum. Cross the River Sarawak to see the Cat Museum, the futuristic golden-domed State Mosque, the umbrella-roofed State Assembly and the Astana, the former palace of the ‘White Rajahs’ who ruled the Kingdom of Sarawak in the century before WWII. Continue the tour on foot through Old Kuching, visiting the colourful Central Market, where the aroma of spices wafts through the air, and admire relics of the of the White Rajah era, such as the Pavilion, the Square Tower, the Court House, the Charles Brooke Monument and the Post Office. Evening free at leisure. Perhaps head to the Esplanade for a sunset walk or visit the Top Spot Food Court for a taste of the authentic Kuching.
