DAY 1

SIEM REAP arrival

Arrival in Siem Reap. Airport welcoming by your guide. Road to Tonle Sap Lake, one of the wonders of Asia. Boat trip to a floating village animated by fisheries activities and livestock, providing a colourful spectacle. Then visit of "Scents of Angkor" factory. We will discover how candles, soaps and other creams are made and as well the process of spices such as pepper chili, curry etc. Before returning to the hotel, visit of the art gallery "Theam's House", located in a rural style house. The artist Lim Muy Theam creates sculptures and paintings with high value to art collectors. Welcoming dinner in a local restaurant. Night at the hotel. Read more

DAY 2

SIEM REAP

Breakfast at the hotel. Early visit by tuk-tuk to explore Angkor Thom with the Terrace of Elephants, Terrace of the Leper King and Angkor Wat, masterpiece of Khmer art which became a symbol of Cambodia. Lunch in a local restaurant. Pursuit of visits, if necessary after a short nap, the extraordinary Bayon, the temple of many faces. Dinner in a local restaurant, with a traditional dance show, the Apsara dance that has been ranked as UNESCO immaterial world heritage. Night at the hotel. Read more

DAY 3

SIEM REAP

Breakfast at the hotel. In the Morning, departure to visit Banteay Srei temple, the "Citadel of Women". Along the way, stop in a traditional village where palm sugar is produced (depending on season). Next stop, visit of the Butterfly Garden, a conservation center which protects hundreds of native specimens of Cambodia, and interactive exhibition devoted to the beautiful insect. Pursuit of the visit with Ta Keo temple, then walking to Ta Nei, about 800 meters from there, small temple away from mass tourism located in the forest creating a mysterious atmosphere. Lunch in a local restaurant. Road to the famous Ta Prohm temple engulfed by vegetation that puts visitors in the skin of the first explorers. Then visit of Banteay Kdei, a Buddhist monastery from 12th century and Srah Srang, known as the "pool of ablutions". Now used by villagers and children who come to chill themselves during the hot season. A walk in the village of Srah Srang before going to visit the Mebon temple and you admire sunset from the top of Pre Rup temple. Dinner in a local “modern khmer” style restaurant “The Square 24”. DAY 4

SIEM REAP / PHNOM PENH

Breakfast at the hotel. Road to Phnom Penh, on the way, visit of Sambor Prei Kuk site (seventh century) which is the most important pre-Angkorian complex. Back on the road with a short stop in the village of Skun, famous for its culinary specialty: spiders! You can eat them and take them on your hands if you want. Lunch on the road. PHNOM PENH / CHAU DOC

Breakfast at the hotel. City tour of the historic capital: Silver Pagoda, located in the Royal Palace; where are kept the treasures of the crown, the National Museum which offers a wonderful collection of bronze coins, sculptures and bas-reliefs etc. Early lunch near the pier. Boarding on a speed boat in the direction of Chau Doc. Navigation along the Mekong, administrative formalities at the border. CHAU DOC / CAN THO

Breakfast at the hotel Departure to the forest Tra Su, the garden birds. Boarding on a small boat to cross small arroyos and to contemplate storks, night herons and other tropical birds. On the way, visit of a crocodile farm. Lunch in a local restaurant. Road to Can Tho. On the way, visit of the ancient house of Binh Thuy, one of the most beautiful houses of South Vietnam and very representative of the colonial architectural style. DAY 7

CAN THO / Le Cochinchine

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure by boat on the canal Nong Cai to discover the river activities and the Cai Rang floating market, the most vivid of the region. Thousands of boats come every day to sell products on the river. Tasting of fresh fruits of the area, directly bought from a boat on the river. Back to the pier and embarkation aboard a traditional wooden boat. Welcome drink. The boats are a special mean to explore the river and the delta, an exotic and off the beaten track experience. Cabins are equipped of fans, private bathroom with showers and hot water. Lunch aboard the boat while cruising through the canals. After lunch, bicycle ride across small green paths. Along the way you will observe the real life of the delta, the friendly locals and the luxuriant gardens. You will stop in the Lach village in order to visit one of the gardens and taste some of the tropical fruits. Back on the boat and pursuit of your cruise towards Cai Be. You will enjoy a magical sunset from the deck of the boat. The boat will anchor for the night. Dinner and overnight on the boat. Read more

DAY 8

Le Cochinchine / CHO LACH

Those who get up early will have the chance to witness the sunrise on the Mekong, life begins on the river, the birds are singing and the small boats are starting to navigate. Breakfast on the boat and sailing through Cai Be wholesale floating market. Back on land and visit of a small village specialized in handcrafts, warm meeting with the locals, visit of ancient houses and tasting of tropical fruits. You will then get on a small boat to navigate across the small arroyos between the islands. Then a short bicycle ride across on luxuriant small paths. Back on the main boat and disembarkation. Transfer by boat towards Cho Lach, small and authentic village of Ben Tre province. Arrival to Nam Hien cottage where you will spend the night, typical wooden house of the delta. Lunch of local delicacies. You will get the chance to discover the local life and the history of the area where arboriculture is very important as it has always been a very fertile land. Bicycle trip along the shaded little backways of the village and get back in time for cooking dinner along with the family. For dinner, duck cooked in coconut milk, a specialty of the family. DAY 9

CHO LACH / HO CHI MINH

Breakfast at the cottage. Bicycle ride to the nearby local market filled with fresh products from the delta. Road back throughout the little trails, great way to get in touch with the local life. Road to Ho Chi Minh. Lunch along the way. Tour in Chinatown for its special atmosphere, very commercial area, the great Binh Tay Market, herbalists alleys, these plants are essential in traditional medicine and the Thien Hau Temple, known for his statuettes glazed ceramic. Visit of a lacquer factory where are exposed many lacquered objects and incrusted with nacre, ancestral tradition of Vietnam. Diner cruise on the Mekong River with traditional music show. HO CHI MINH DEPARTURE

Breakfast at the hotel. Walking tour around the old colonial district, where most the buildings from the colonial era are located. Photo stop in front of the Reunification Palace. Visit of the central post office, designed by Gustave Eiffel’s workshop, followed by Notre Dame Cathedral, constructed in 1880. Walk on the ex-Catinat street to the city hall, the municipal theatre and the historic “Continental” hotel. Lunch in a local restaurant. Les plus : Le voyage c'est aussi ceux qui vous permettent de comprendre le pays et les gens avec lesquels vous êtes. De ce point de vue notre guide et notre chauffeur ont été parfaits. Nous avons aimé les grandes 'balades' dans la nature, les rencontres avec les habitants dans les villages, les superbes paysages. La ville de Sapa, comme hors du temps, entre Annecy et Shangri Là. La balade sur le lac Thac Ba a été un vrai bonheur. Fruit d'un barrage hydraulique, le lac est d'une grande beauté avec ses ilots plantés et ses pêcheurs. Dépêchez vous d'y aller avant qu'il ne devienne aussi fréquenté d'Halong ! La baie d'Halong terrestre est également un beau souvenir, plus calme que la baie maritime et très impressionnante aussi. Villages sympa. Les moins : Les distances ne sont pas très grandes dans le nord, mais le temps pour les parcourir est très grand : 5 heures pour 130 km ! Des routes très difficiles et pas mal de fatigue. Heureusement voiture climatisée ;-) La baie d'Halong restera un souvenir un peu mitigé : que des bateaux touristiques, aucune jonque et peu de pêcheurs. Heureusement nous avons eu un très beau temps et un beau coucher (et lever) de soleil. La navigation au petit matin est plus belle que celle du soir. Elle est moins encombrée. Nous avions emmené des petits cadeaux pour les populations rencontrées mais nous ne nous sommes pas sentis heureux de distribuer ainsi. Nous ne sommes pas certains que cela soit agréable pour les gens. Commentaire : 15 jours au départ d'Hanoi vers les montagnes et Sapa et retour par la baie d'Halong maritime puis la terrestre. Nous avons aimé les grandes 'balades' dans la nature, les rencontres avec les habitants dans les villages, les superbes paysages. Nous avons eu la chance de participer à une fête dans un village. Nous avons dansé autour du feu et sauté en rythme au dessus des bambous. C'était gai et bon enfant. La balade sur le lac Thac Ba a été un vrai bonheur. Les plus : Ce que nous avons le plus aimé sont les paysages magnifiques et variés, la gentillesses des habitants, Les moins : Le moins serait peut-être la chaleur et la sur-fréquentation de la baie d'Halong. Commentaire : Pour nous il s'est agi d'un dépaysement total et s'est ce que nous en attendions. Nous avons été conquis par ce pays où les paysages sont grandioses, les habitants d'une gentillesse naturelle. Même si la vie est complètement différente de ce que l'on connaît en France, on s'y sent tout de suite très bien et sans aucun sentiment d'insécurité, bien au contraire. Quant à l'organisation, tout a été parfait et le programme établi a été respecté à la lettre, il faut dire que notre interlocuteur sur place, Quynh Anh, est extraordinaire, d'ailleurs nous avons souhaité la rencontrer en personne pour la remercier.
