DAY 1

HO CHI MINH WELCOME

Arrival in Ho Chi Minh. Airport welcoming by your guide and then transfer to the city. Sightseeing in the old French quarter. The central post office: Constructed between 1886 and 1891, this building is a real footprint of the French. It was designed by Gustave Eiffel’s workshop and is inspired from Parisian buildings. The Notre Dame Cathedral: This red bricked cathedral is one of the landmarks of the city. It was constructed by the French between 1877 and 1880. DAY 2

HO CHI MINH – CHO LACH

Breakfast at the hotel. Visit Chinatown Cho Lon and the big market Binh Tay. This neighborhood is the shopping heart of the city where life never stops. Stroll through the streets of this neighborhood to explore typical shops as traditional medicine shops. Departure to the Mekong Delta. Boarding for a ride in one of the Mekong arm. Visit of the traditional brick factory followed by a factory where objects based on coconut fibers are made. Bike ride to get in touch with the local way of life passing through schools, rice field, orchards… Breakfast in a garden to discover Mekong Delta’s specialty; “elephant ears” fish. Road to Cho Lach. Settlement at Mr. Nam Hien’s countryside cottage, a typical one along the Mekong Delta. Watching the preparation of traditional dishes, which will be served for dinner. Apéritif with the host family. DAY 3

CHO LACH – LONG XUYEN

Breakfast at the cottage. Ride bike to Cho Lach’s local market, to observe the local life and discover the delta’s variety of fruits and vegetables. Road through little streets, fruits gardens, countryside and garden center to know better about the handcrafts and the traditional life in the region. Discovering of the arborist profession with Mr. Hien Nam. Lunch in a charming house, typical meal witch agricultural products from the region. Transfer to Long Xuyen, a quiet town on Mekong’s shores across the river aboard a shuttle driven locals. Landing on the Ong Ho island, for a bike ride on the trails, which offers a glimpse of daily life. Then homestay accommodation. Dinner and night at a homestay. Read more

DAY 4

LONG XUYEN – CHAU DOC

Breakfast at the homestay. Morning visit of the floating market of Long Xuyen, which is the most authentic in the region. Discovering a floating village, living of fish farming and a water garden. Boarding and drive to Chau Doc through peaceful landscapes of the Mekong. Lunch on the road Arrival at destination, orientation tour of the city. Chau Doc, small border town of Cambodia, stretch on the Mekong side. It is distinguished by its lively little streets, its cultural and religious diversity, its modest houses on stilts and its natural site offering to visitors’ unforgettable moments. Departure to the forest Tra Su, the garden birds. Boarding on a small boat to cross small arroyos and to contemplate storks, night herons and other tropical birds. Dinner and night at the hotel. CHAU DOC – PHNOM PENH

Breakfast at the hotel Boarding on a speed boat in the direction of Phnom Penh. Navigation along the Mekong, administrative formalities at the border. Picnic lunch on board. Arrival at the port of Phnom Penh, welcoming by your tour-guide and transfer to the hotel. Afternoon, discovering historic capital city with the silver pagoda, located in the Royal palace, where are kept the treasures of the crown, the National Museum which offers a wonderful collection of bronze coins, sculptures and bas-reliefs etc. Dinner at a local restaurant Overnight at the hotel. DAY 6

PHNOM PENH – KAMPONG THOM

Breakfast at the hotel In the morning, visit of the Vat Phnom pagoda: very shady pleasant site, on the top on the small hill and emblematic of the city. Then visit of Khmer Rouge régime’s old prison of the Tuol Sleng (S21), who became the museum of Genocide. At the end of the morning, a little stroll in the Russian market (Psar Toul Tom Poung). Lunch at the local restaurant. Afternoon, departure to Kampong Thom and on the way there is a stop at Skun market which has the distinction of having specialized in the trade of insects. Continuation of the road, stop at Wat Nokor Kohear (dated XI century) where you can discover typical Cambodian homes. Arrival at Kampong Thom and meeting with your host family. KAMPONG THOM – SIEM REAP

After the breakfast, departure to Sambor Prei Kuk site (VII century) which is the largest pre-Angkor complex. Continuation on the road to Siem Reap and lunch on the way. Stop in Kampong Khleang, a village located at fifty kilometers from Siem Reap and is spared from mass tourism. This is a village where all the houses are on stilts and floating. It’s offering a exceptional landscape. An amazing ride that lasts an hour by boat to one of the largest villages on stilts: Kampong Khleang. SIEM REAP

Breakfast at the hotel Trailer day visit who starting early, visit the Angkor Thom site the Baphoun, the unbelievable Bayon, Temple with many faces. Finally, the Terrace of Elephants and Terrace of the Leper King. Lunch at local restaurant Discovering Ta Keo’s temple and then joining by walk Ta Nei, just located at 800 meters from there, it is a small temple which is not so much visited and it is in the forest. SIEM REAP

Breakfast at the hotel. Start the day early to enjoy the sunrise on Angkor Wat, the first rays illuminate the five famous towers, an unforgettable experience! Discovering Angkor Wat, a masterpiece of Khmer art, who became a Cambodia’s symbol. Lunch at Bong Thom Home Stay restaurant, a traditional wooden house. Road to visit the temple of Banteay Srei. On the way back to Siem Reap, stop at the Mining Museum of Mr Aki Ra, the museum's founder, was trained as a child soldier during the Khmer Rouge regime and works now as a minesweeper. Les plus : Le voyage c'est aussi ceux qui vous permettent de comprendre le pays et les gens avec lesquels vous êtes. De ce point de vue notre guide et notre chauffeur ont été parfaits. Nous avons aimé les grandes 'balades' dans la nature, les rencontres avec les habitants dans les villages, les superbes paysages. La ville de Sapa, comme hors du temps, entre Annecy et Shangri Là. La balade sur le lac Thac Ba a été un vrai bonheur. Fruit d'un barrage hydraulique, le lac est d'une grande beauté avec ses ilots plantés et ses pêcheurs. Dépêchez vous d'y aller avant qu'il ne devienne aussi fréquenté d'Halong ! La baie d'Halong terrestre est également un beau souvenir, plus calme que la baie maritime et très impressionnante aussi. Villages sympa. Les moins : Les distances ne sont pas très grandes dans le nord, mais le temps pour les parcourir est très grand : 5 heures pour 130 km ! Des routes très difficiles et pas mal de fatigue. Heureusement voiture climatisée ;-) La baie d'Halong restera un souvenir un peu mitigé : que des bateaux touristiques, aucune jonque et peu de pêcheurs. Heureusement nous avons eu un très beau temps et un beau coucher (et lever) de soleil. La navigation au petit matin est plus belle que celle du soir. Elle est moins encombrée. Nous avions emmené des petits cadeaux pour les populations rencontrées mais nous ne nous sommes pas sentis heureux de distribuer ainsi. Nous ne sommes pas certains que cela soit agréable pour les gens. Commentaire : 15 jours au départ d'Hanoi vers les montagnes et Sapa et retour par la baie d'Halong maritime puis la terrestre. Nous avons aimé les grandes 'balades' dans la nature, les rencontres avec les habitants dans les villages, les superbes paysages. Nous avons eu la chance de participer à une fête dans un village. Nous avons dansé autour du feu et sauté en rythme au dessus des bambous. C'était gai et bon enfant. La balade sur le lac Thac Ba a été un vrai bonheur. Fruit d'un barrage hydraulique, le lac est d'une grande beauté avec ses ilots plantés et ses pêcheurs. Dépêchez vous d'y aller avant qu'il ne devienne aussi fréquenté d'Halong ! Les plus : Ce que nous avons le plus aimé sont les paysages magnifiques et variés, la gentillesses des habitants, Les moins : Le moins serait peut-être la chaleur et la sur-fréquentation de la baie d'Halong. Commentaire : Pour nous il s'est agi d'un dépaysement total et s'est ce que nous en attendions. Nous avons été conquis par ce pays où les paysages sont grandioses, les habitants d'une gentillesse naturelle. Même si la vie est complètement différente de ce que l'on connaît en France, on s'y sent tout de suite très bien et sans aucun sentiment d'insécurité, bien au contraire. Quant à l'organisation, tout a été parfait et le programme établi a été respecté à la lettre, il faut dire que notre interlocuteur sur place, Quynh Anh, est extraordinaire, d'ailleurs nous avons souhaité la rencontrer en personne pour la remercier.
